Detroit selects Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with the 8th pick in the draft
Over the last few years, Detroit has made some good draft picks and are hoping that Caldwell-Pope will add to a young core made up of Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight, and Andre Drummond. Drummond and Monroe look they could form one of the biggest and best front courts in the league and Caldwell-Pope will supplement a back court that needs to catch up.
There are some nice building blocks there, but they need to add several more pieces before they can really make a playoff push. The stats don't reveal any glaring weaknesses, but nor do they indicate that this Pistons team has anything they can really bank on, except possibly offensive rebounding.
Caldwell-Popewill add talent to a team that needs it. They could certainly use more 3P production--they were 24th in 3PA. Caldwell-Pope is another NBA ready shooter who is used to carrying a bad Georgia team by himself. Opposing SEC defenses focuses solely on him but he was still able to produce at a high level.
The Pistons are still probably a year or two away, but the roster is definitely starting to come together and Caldwell-Pope should be able to contribute.
