The OKC Thunder are ready for an epic NBA Finals versus the Miami Heat
Game 1: OKC -5
This is a relatively small spread for a Game 1. In the last 10 years no NBA Finals Game 1 has been decided by less than 7 points. The home team has won nine of them and the away team one, back in 2004 when the Pistons shocked the Lakers.
A seven game playoff series is a feeling out process and many Game 1’s are decided by large margins, since both teams are unfamiliar with each other. I don’t know who will win the game, but the odds say it will probably be a blowout. Prediction: OKC to cover the -5.
Series Price: OKC -180/ Miami + 150:
The odds seem right where they should be for this series. Both teams are evenly matched and the main reason for OKC being favored is because of the home court advantage. In the last 10 NBA Finals the home team has won seven, and the away team managed to pull off the upset three times- Detroit in 04’ Miami in 06’ and Dallas last year.
Betting OKC at almost 2-1 does not feel worth the risk, since this is their first NBA Finals and it’s difficult to predict how they will react on the games grandest stage. Miami is experienced and hungry in a way that losing in the Finals the year before can only bring. Prediction: I think OKC will win the series, but if I had to bet it I would put money on Miami, the odds are too good.
Finals MVP Odds:
This year's finals MVP is going to be tough to pick with so many superstars roaming the court during this series. Kevin Durant is the favorite at -120 and Lebron comes in next at even money, and Wade and Westbrook come in at +550 and +500 respectively.
If Miami wins the series there is no way anyone other than Lebron will win the MVP award. Wade has decided to defer to Lebron all year and I cannot see him outshining LBJ in this series. If any member of the Heat were to win the award other than Lebron, it would be Chris Bosh at +1000, but it’s a long shot.
On the OKC side, Russell Westbrook’s odds look every enticing at +500. Durant is the superstar of the team, but Westbrook controls the ball and routinely takes more shots than Durant. I could easily see Westbrook stealing this award.
