NBA Playoffs Live Thread: Bulls Vs Celtics, Pistons Vs Cavaliers

There Are Playoffs Everywhere! [NBA Playoffs Early Live Thread]

4/18/09 in NBA   |   Pat   |   5233 respect

This is one of the best times of the year, sports-wise. Baseball has started, the NFL Draft is next weekend, the NHL playoffs started earlier this week, and now the NBA playoffs are starting as well.

The early games start with the Celtics hosting the Bulls at 12:30, on ESPN. The Celtics will be without injured superstar Kevin Garnett, but they're still the favorites against the 7th-seeded Bulls. The Celtics won the season series 2-1, but the loss came in the one game that they played without KG, and it was also the most recent meeting, as it game only a month ago on St. Patrick's Day. Most people are still picking the C's to win the series, but it would be a much easier prospect with Garnett in the lineup.

The next game is the Pistons and Cavaliers, at 3:00 on ABC. LeBron James and the #1 seed Cavaliers finished 39-2 at home, and I doubt the Pistons will be able to sneak in a win in Cleveland. That's where the first two games will be, so the Pistons will really have to take care of business at home, and grab at least one road win if they want to have a chance at all.

If you're watching the games, chat it up here. We'll have another thread for the later games, but here's your place, for now. Enjoy the games!

yeah, your prob right. But like i said....I'm not convinced KG isn't coming back for that series.

I'm not even going to do this. I'm not gonna put enough effort into this argument when the Celtics will make my argument for me in just a few hours. Chicago cannot consistently beat Boston. That's the bottom line. I don't care if the Celtics blow them out, or win by the skin of their teeth. Winning is winning cut and dry. I think we can both agree there.

I know Chicago cant consistently take it to Boston, I don't think Orlando can, and I don't think Cleveland can. KG or no KG Boston/Cleveland will be a great series. The only team I can say that might be able to consistently beat Boston will be the Lakers. I'm not sure about that one.....not yet. Time will tell though. I'm not looking at things as inside the box as you are. I still think your gonna see KG taking on Cleveland with the rest of the Celtics

"Bigs" generally refer to big men on the court, but whatever.  Your bigs outplayed themselves, Pierce played just fine, Rondo had a great game, and Ray Allen is repeating his performance from last year.  Why should anyone expect Boston to play much better?  They have room for improvement, but without KG this is as about as good as they'll be in the playoffs.  Take off of the rose colored glasses.  Ben Gordon shot like crap for the Bulls, Chicago couldn't hit a three for the life of them, had more turnovers, and more fouls.  Let's stop pretending that only Boston can get better and realize that without KG they aren't going to dominate this series.  I would've figured by now that that would be fairly obvious.

I keep saying this. Lebron will get the ring. He brought back the Gold from China. The NBA will make sure he get a RING to go with it. How can you explain all of a sudden all the good teams from last year and years before, are now all of sudden not playing up to parr? Come on you guys, get a grip. It's all political.  THE NBA, will make sure Lebron get that ring. Think about it.

Pierce scored only 4 points in the 1st half, and missed the potentially game-winning foul shot at the end of regulation. I agree that Rondo was outstanding, and was the best player on the court today not named Rose. I agree that Chicago outplayed the Celtics and that Ray Allen desperately needs to step up. BUT... he wasn't the only factor. They got out-rebounded, which had nothing to do with Allen, and they did not shoot well as a team in the first and fourth quarters.

Yes, Ray Allen needs to step up, but they CAN win without him playing at his best in this series, and the Celtics will dominate game 2.
