The mind spins all the trade rumors floating about today. Will any of these actually go down? I'm going to do my best to outline all of the top trades offers being discussed and place some odds on the trade actually happening. You tell me which you think are most likely.
Heard about any Kevin Garnett rumors lately?
Kevin Garnett would go from Minnesota to the Lakers Celtics would send Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and the No. 5 pick to the Timberwolves and receive just O’Neal in return. The Timberwolves would receive big man Kwame Brown and the No. 19 pick from the Lakers. The Pacers would take Lakers forward Lamar Odom and young Lakers center Andrew Bynum to complete the transaction. Despite my thinking that Kevin McHale is a complete idiot, he's saying that Garnett will not be traded unless Al Jefferson heads his way. Good call, Kevin. Thus I think this trade is a longshot.
Odds: 50/1
Then there's the direct deal between LA and Minnesota involving Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom and the 19th pick for Kevin Garnett. If the Lakers 1st round pick was in the Top 12 I think this deal would actually be done. Is investing in Bynum really enough? Odom only has a couple years left, and the 19th pick will only net a role player. Expect this to be tabled and executed as a last resort if the Timberwolves can't find a better option.
Odds: 25/1
What about KG to the Mavericks? According to DallasBasketball.com it's a possibility. "From what we can gather, Dallas has done more than probe. NBA sources say Minnesota has been very clear in talks what they would require from the Mavs: A draft pick between No. 3 and No. 7 overall; a package of expiring contracts; and a future young star." Not knowing what deal is/or could be on the table this is a little difficult to predict but consider that the Mavs offering Josh Howard would have to seal the deal if they could somehow
Odds: 20/1
Kobe Bryant to Chicago Bulls John Paxson has denied any talks about Bryant to the Bulls, and basically said no to any deal involving the Bulls before the July 1st Free Agent period.
Odds: 500/1
Draft Express mentions an attractive offer of Shawn Marion, Kurt Thomas and 3 first round picks for Garnett. I agree with Jonathan Givony's assessment that this is a better option than any deal the Lakers are presenting. Problem here is that two of those first round picks are extremely low. Nonetheless, after missing all those picks for McHale's mistakes, they could use this infusion of youth especially during a deep draft period.
Odds: 15/1
Jermaine O'Neal to Atlanta for Josh Smith, Speedy Claxton and the 11th Pick Under the radar trade that could make a great deal of sense, but obviously a better deal on the Hawks end. I do think Atlanta will trade one of their two picks, so this appears plauseable.
Odds: 10/1
Now here's a deal I see happening, the Phoenix Suns trading their 24th overall pick in addition to Atlanta's first round pick next year for a move into the Top 10. In some form, expect the Suns to move up.
Odds: 3/1
