NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:Houston 83, Atlanta 75 It wasn't anything but pretty, but it's still win #20 in a row for the Rockets. Houston won despite being held to just 32 points in the first half. They are now tied with the 1970-71 Bucks for second longest winning streak ever. Like the Rockets or not, but they've now essentially gone an entire quarter of an NBA season without losing. The question is does this change how you'll look at Houston come playoff time?
New Orleans 100, San Antonio 75 The Spurs scored just 8 points in the fourth quarter, which turned a nine point three quarter lead for the Hornets into the blowout this became. New Orleans shot an unconscious 59% from the field. With this win, the Hornets are a half game back of the Rockets and Spurs for the Southwest Division lead.
New Jersey 104, Cleveland 99 This result came despite a 42 point, 11 rebound, 7 assist performance from LeBron. However, the rest of the starting lineup combined for 19 points total. Even though the Nets have struggled this season, they're leading the season series with Cleveland 3-0.
Best Lines
- Chris Paul, NO: 26 pts, 12-19 FG, 1 reb, 17 ast, 3 stl...Paul should definitely not be counted out of the MVP race yet.
- Shawn Marion, Mia: 15 pts, 17 rebs, 2 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk...The Heat still lost to the Knicks. Haven't fun yet, Shawn (you know, except for the whole South Beach thing)?
- Josh Smith, Atl: 16 pts, 22 rebs (9 off), 2 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk...I know they lost, but damn.
- O'Neal and Tinsley unlikely to make it back - In other words, it's time to tank!
- Miami's core identified - Wade, Marion, Haslem, Wright, and Cook. Not bad, but after the big two, only Haslem is anywhere close to above average right now.
- James Harden will return to ASU - I'm not sure where he would've been selected, but since there were a lot of freshmen that overshadowed him, it's probably the right mood. I know Jon's happy about this.
