NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:

Lakers win thriller For three quarters, Allen Iverson couldn't miss, while Kobe Bryant spent a lot of time on the bench with foul trouble and a shoulder injury. In the fourth though, Iverson cooled off, Kobe heated up, and the Lakers won 111-107. AI scored 49 points in the first three quarters, but only two in the fourth. Those two gave the Nuggets a three point lead. A dunk and free throw tied the game with two minutes to go, and then Kobe took over. Two lay-ups gave the Lakers the lead, and after a Denver score, Kobe hit a jumper with 35.3 to make it 108-104. The Lakers made their free throws down the stretch to steal the win. Iverson had the first 50 point game of the year, but that's little consolation.

Spurs beat Mavs without TD San Antonio remained unbeaten at home this year after beating Dallas in a tight one, 97-95 without the injured Tim Duncan. The Mavs actually led by 10 at the half, but the Spurs rallied in the third quarter to take the lead for good, led by FBS's 16 points in the period (part of a season high 37). For FBS, the big night came despite a bruised finger and starting for the first time this season.

Knicks remember how to play basketball The Knicks also were able to win on the road, albeit against the Nets 100-93. Three mitigating factors to this game: Stephon Marbury, Eddy Curry, and Jason Kidd were all out. At least two of three factors contributed to the Knicks' victory.

Best Lines
  • Allen Iverson, Den: 51 pts, 18-27 FG, 15-18 FT, 2 rebs, 8 ast, 1 stl...A given despite how it ended.
  • Tracy McGrady, Hou: 17 pts, 10 rebs, 12 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk...T-Mac couldn't shoot (7-22 from the field), but contributed elsewhere as the Rockets beat the Grizzlies.
  • Tyson Chandler, NO: 17 pts, 7-9 FG, 22 rebs (8 off), 1 blk...Unfortunately for the Hornets, offensive rebounds are easier to grab when your team shoots 34.7% from the field. As such, New Orleans fell to the Pistons.
