NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:We're back after not paying attention all weekend due to March Madness.
Detroit 110, Phoenix 105 This result ends Phoenix's seven game win streak, and gives Detroit its seventh straight 50 win season. There were 14 lead changes and 16 ties in the first half alone. Chauncey Billups took over in overtime though, scoring 9 points to give the Pistons win, possibly with the help of some close calls. Of course, that would be easier to determine had the game been on anything but local TV.
LA Lakers 123, Golden State 119 What a night for Lamar Odom. 23 points, 21 rebounds, and the go-ahead layup with nine seconds left in overtime. It shouldn't even gotten to overtime though, as the Lakers led by 9 with three minutes left. However, a furious 10-1 close by Golden State forced overtime. The Warriors stayed in it during the OT, but were doomed after Monta Ellis was called for an offensive foul after the Odom layup. As such, Golden State is now just a half game ahead of Denver for the final playoff spot. The Lakers take a half game lead on New Orleans for the #1 seed.
Philadelphia 95, Boston 90 Boston thought they had this one in hand, til the Sixers went on an incredible 19-0 run to steal the victory. The Sixers are now above .500 for the first time all year (36-35), and definitely look like they can win a first round series.
Is Dallas Screwed? I'm talking about making the playoffs here, not advancing in them. I'm guessing we all agree that without Dirk, the Mavs have no chance of winning a series. They currently sit a game and a half ahead of Denver, two games in the loss column, with 12 to play. The schedule is for the most part not favorable. Their next game is home against the Clippers, then at Denver and at Golden State, which might decide their fate right there. They also play Golden State and Utah at home, and at the Lakers and Phoenix. That's half their remaining schedule against the Top 9, not counting the season finale against New Orleans, who could be resting players then. If the Mavs can beat Denver and Golden State, or at least split, they might be able to hang on. If they lose both, see ya.
