NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:LA Lakers 112, Dallas 108 The Mavs led by 14 at one point in the second quarter, by 7 after three quarters, and by 3 with 1:29 to play. The Lakers ended though on a 9-2 run to complete the comeback. LA took the lead on a three point play by Pau Gasol, and aided by a Dallas turnover, were able to increase that lead at the foul line in the final minute. With the win, the Lakers clinch a playoff berth. With the loss and the Warriors winning, Dallas is up a game on Golden State, who are a half back of the Nuggets for 8th.
Utah 90, San Antonio 64 This is known as a good old-fashioned butt kicking. The Spurs' score by quarter: 24-14-17-9. That ties for the fewest points in Spurs history, and it was fourth lowest point total by a team in a game this season. Utah, meanwhile, continues to be really, really good at home.
New Orleans 118, New York 110
Philadelphia 109, Atlanta 104
Washington 109, Miami 95
All three winning teams clinched playoff berths. Obviously, the Hornets and Wizards victories are not surprising. Philly nearly blew a 14 point lead before rallying to clinch a playoff berth for the first time in 3 years. The Hawks remain three games up on the Pacers for the 8th seed in the East.
Toronto lost their game to Charlotte, but they also clinched a playoff berth tonight.
Best Lines
- Lamar Odom, LAL: 31 pts, 12-14 FG, 11 rebs, 5 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk...That's a season high for Odom.
- Chris Paul, NO: 33 pts, 10-19 FG, 12-13 FT, 4 rebs, 15 ast, 2 stl
- Andre Iguodala, Phi: 30 pts, 9-15 FG, 11-12 FT, 3 rebs, 10 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk
- Gordon to declare for draft - Hold your shock.
- Mark Jackson to become Knicks coach? - I have no idea if this is true, or if Jackson would be a good coach. It would fit the NBA mold that good, not great ex-players > Hall of Famers at coaching/GM'ing.
- Gherardini denies talking with Bucks - I'm just pleased the Bucks might be looking at new guys instead of the usual retreads.
