NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:San Antonio 107, Denver 103 The Spurs avoided their first three game losing streak of the year. This game was back and forth throughout the entire fourth quarter, including six ties, the last being 100 a piece with 2:18 to go. From there though, the Nuggets didn't score again until a meaningless three at the end, while the Spurs of course hit their free throws down the stretch. The Spurs are tied atop the West with the Lakers, while the Nuggets are 2 1/2 back from the 8th seeded Warriors.
Cleveland 88, Portland 80 LeBron's seventh triple double of the year will get the attention, it was a big defensive effort that won this game for the Cavs. Cleveland gave up just 37 points in the second half, allowing them to rebound from a poor opening quarter that saw them fall behind 25-14. Of course, LeBron's 24, 10, and 11 certainly helped.
Houston 91, New Jersey 73 Win #19 in a row for the Rockets, helped a lot by the pathetic Nets, who shot just 30.4% from the field. Of the 19 games that the Rockets have won, nine have come against current playoff terms (albeit some are below .500 East teams), as well as one against Denver. Their next two are at Atlanta, then home against Charlotte before the Lakers and Boston come to town. So, the ceiling for the streak may be 21 games, which would still be the second longest ever.
Best Lines
- LeBron James, Cle: 24 pts, 10 rebs, 11 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk
- Hedo Turkolgu, Orl: 23 pts, 10 rebs, 13 ast...Um, how did that happen?
- Al Thornton, LAC: 22 pts, 9-14 FG, 10 rebs, 3 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk...Thornton has been playing very well recently, thus giving the Clips at least one thing to be happy about this season.
- Brand wants to stay in LA - Here's the second thing for Clips fans to happy about.
- Ratliff wants to play one more season - He is aware he won't make $12 million next season, right?
- Pavlovic could return soon - I guess that could help in the sense it would take away minutes from Damon Jones.
