NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:Phoenix 94, San Antonio 87 For the first time, it finally came together for the Suns. A good defensive effort, especially in the closing minutes proved the difference. The Suns outscored the Spurs 14-2 with the final 3:40 to pull out the victory. Shaq played his best game as a Sun so far, scoring 14 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. While there is still debate on whether Phoenix is still a viable title contender with Shaq, it's obviously good how they stepped up in this big game.
Detroit 116, Chicago 109 Amazingly enough, this was Detroit's first win over the Bulls in their last six tries. It was enough, however, to clinch a playoff berth (in 63 games, thanks Eastern Conference). Tough guy award goes into Tayshaun Prince. After being fouled hard by Larry Hughes, Prince fell hard and appeared to hurt his arm. Despite lying on the ground for a few minutes, he got up and scored 15 points in the final 17 minutes.
Sacramento 114, LA Lakers 113 Kobe couldn't work his magic this time. He missed an 18 footer at the buzzer, thus giving the Kings an upset win on the road. Sacramento scored 71 points in the first half, taking an 11 point lead going into the break. From there, they held off the Laker rally, but not taking the lead for good until Beno Udrih hit two free throws with four seconds left.
Best Lines
- Chauncey Billups, Det: 34 pts, 9-12 FG, 3-4 3PT, 13-14 FT, 2 rebs, 4 ast...That ties a season high in scoring for Billups.
- Steve Nash, Pho: 19 pts, 7-12 FG, 5 rebs, 14 ast
- Thaddeus Young, Phi: 22 pts, 8-11 FG, 6-6 FT, 4 rebs, 3 ast, 1 stl...Career high in points for Young, who's quietly had a solid rookie season. The Sixers are quietly playing good ball, winning 4 straight and getting within striking distance of .500 (30-33).
- No timetable on Bosh's return - Hopefully it's not serious, but Bosh has now missed the last five games.
- LeBron to Nets (eventually) rumors continue - As someone who has been to Cleveland to see the Cavs, I can definitely say there's a lot of sucking up to LeBron. The team and city is justifiably worried about this.
- Taylor not selling the Wolves - Goody.
