NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:Sixers top beat-up Rockets Apparently the Sixers like not working for Billy King, as they win their third straight. This one was over early, as Houston doubled up Philly in the fourth quarter, but still lost 100-88. Not helping for the Rockets was Tracy McGrady's latest injury, a sprained right ankle. He left in the second half.
Magic cool down a bit Orlando couldn't make a shot, and as a result fell to the Hawks 98-87, the Magic's second straight loss. The Magic shot a season-low 39.7%, and 19 turnovers didn't help either. Those turnovers resulted in 29 Atlanta points. Despite the loss, the Magic probably don't have a lot to worry about yet, at 16-6. The Hawks, meanwhile, are back up to .500 at 10-10, putting up firmly in this year's East playoff "chase."
What's up with the Suns? That sounds a little strange to ask about a 16-6 team, but in the past few days the Suns have lost to the Wolves and now the Heat, 117-113. Miami scored 40 first quarter points, leaving the Suns to play catch-up. The Suns rallied to within two late, but were hurt by jumper after jumper, many from Wade, foiling Phoenix's plan to keep him away from the basket.
Best Lines
- Josh Smith, Atl: 25 pts, 16 rebs, 5 ast, 4 stl, 4 blk...Score one for the "Josh Smith will breakout this year" group.
- Dirk Nowitzki, Dal: 36 pts, 14-23 FG, 7 rebs, 4 ast, 2 stl...Once again, the Knicks are a perfect cure for a somewhat ailing basketball team.
- Miami Heat: outrebounded Phoenix 46-29...Um, ouch.
- No Curfew for Pacers - I see both sides of the argument. What confuses me is Larry Bird saying he doesn't care if his players are out at 3:30 am. Shouldn't that be always be a concern? Remember, nothing good happens after midnight.
- Trade talks brewing in Miami - We'll see if tonight's win gets something going and keeps the blow up away from a bit more.
- Quiet in Dallas - While they certainly don't need to do anything out of panic, shouldn't they at least consider a Kidd deal at the right price? That kind of move is definitely not a panic move.
