NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:Wolves beat Suns--seriously As always, the second game of a road back-to-back is hard, no matter who you're playing. The Suns got that reminder, as they lost 117-107 to the lowly Wolves. Minnesota raced to a 15 point halftime lead and never looked back. They are now 7-34 for the year, and unless they somehow go 1-40 in the second half of the year, the 72-73 Sixers record is safe.
Raptors nip Celtics The Celtics have been playing stingy defense most of the year, but tonight Toronto couldn't miss in their 114-112 win. The Raptors shot 58% from the field, and 15-21 from downtown. The game winning bucket, however, came from a traditional three point play from Jose Calderon with 10.5 left. Boston had two chances to win, but Eddie House and then Ray Allen missed. Thus, Boston remains in a bit of a lull, now 4-4 since beating Detroit. Nothing to worry about, but nice for the rest of the conference to see they're not invincible.
Spurs race ahead of LA The Spurs had actually lost seven straight against teams with winning record. That streak is no more after they defeated the Lakers 103-91. San Antonio started the third quarter on a 14-0 run, and ended it on a 15-5 run, allowing them to run away with it.
West Standings As we hit the halfway mark of the season, it must be pointed out how tight the West is.
1. New Orleans 29-12
2. Phoenix 30-13 (-)
3. Dallas 28-13 (1 GB)
4. Denver 25-16 (4 GB)
5. San Antonio 27-13 (1.5 GB)
6. LA Lakers 27-13 (1.5 GB)
7. Portland 25-17 (4.5 GB)
8. Golden State 25-18 (5 GB)
9. Utah 24-18 (5.5 GB)
10. Houston 23-19 (6.5 GB)
A great mix of upstarts and established powers, and only 8 spots available for 10 good teams. Should be fun to watch, and in the end, there won't be a bad first round playoff matchup in the bunch.
