NBA Triple Threat: Wow, the Bulls Suck

Triple Threat: Your daily look at the Association.

Hello, this is gearhead in words. Issues are keeping me off FanIQ, but Jess has been gracious enough to post this edition of Triple Threat.

Bulls get pounded again It was a simple battle of two teams going in the opposite direction. The Nuggets won their sixth straight by easily defeating the Bulls 112-91. Chicago is now 2-8 with two more games left on their circus road trip. Denver grabbed an 11 point lead after the first quarter, but Chicago was able to get as close as three in the second. From there, the Nuggets went on an 11-0 run and given Chicago’s struggles, essentially put the game out of reach.

Mavs come back from 24 down Down 14 at the half, and watching the deficit get larger and larger, Dallas got tough and came all the way in the third quarter alone to defeat Toronto 105-99. Dirk Nowitzki led the charge, scoring 18 in the third quarter, including four straight threes in the final 1:41 to put the Mavs over the top. Dallas is now 6-0 at home this year.

Lakers pour it on  134 points in regulation pretty much says it all. The Lakers scored the first 12 points of the fourth, slamming the door on Indiana’s chances. Given the amount of offensive output, it’s amazing that Kobe scored “only” 32 points. Seven other Lakers finished in double figures. Definitely a good night to be a Lakers fan.

Best Lines

  • Marcus Camby, Den: 12 pts, 20 rebs, 5 ast, 1 stl, 5 blk…Camby is gunning for another Defensive Player of the Year award.
  • Andray Blatche, Was: 26 pts, 12-14 FG, 8 rebs, 4 ast, 1 stl…No Arenas, no problem. Blatche’s career night help fuel Washington over the Sixers. The Wizards are now back to .500.
  • Michael Redd, Mil:  34 pts, 3-5 3PT, 15-20 FT, 7 rebs, 6 ast, 3 stl, 2 blk…Nice win for Milwaukee at Cleveland. Cavs drop to 5-6.

Rumors du Jour

  • Ariza traded to Lakers – Ariza’s nickname might as well be “Potential” at this point, and there’s evidence that Brian Cook is better than Radmanovic, so I don’t think this is necessarily a slam dunk for the Lakers. Time will tell on this one.
  • Thorn disagrees with Kidd – Kidd says there’s no hope; Thorn disagrees. If Thorn means the Nets can make the playoffs, then he’s right, thanks to the East. If Thorn means championship, he’s delusional.
  • Riley never considered benching ShaqMiami should be very glad for the Knicks. It’s keeping most from noticing the Heat’s implosion.

Now it’s your turn. Share your thoughts the on and off-court action Tuesday night in the NBA.

This is just becoming sad. The worst stat of all for the Bulls -- scoring impaired Joakim Noah led them in points. That's not a discredit to Noah, he appears to be the only one right now that has it together mentally and wants to win.

Blame starts with Skiles, unfortunately. I like Scotty, but this is essentially the very same team as last year. Problem is they have zero leaders ... although if Noah weren't a rookie he'd end up being the guy. PJ Brown was the guy last year. Ben Wallace has his money and now he's just remembering to show up and that's about it. Gordon and Deng are too concerned about money, which is there fault for turning down contract offers that were flattering.

What are you going to do now Paxson? IF this is some grand scheme to tank the season because of the ridiculous crop of freshman coming out then I guess I'm cool with that, but you could have at least given us a hint. We thought this might be an NBA finals year.

I personally love the Lakers trade.  He's a smart young player that can rebound and play defense well.  First good move by Kupchack in a long while.

Didn't think I'd say this this year, but thank God Kobe is still in L.A.  The Bulls are a mess, and should really consider letting Skiles go.  Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford, and Tyson Chandler have all excelled once leaving Chi-town and this team is not developing at all.  They have too much talent to let any coach bring them down.  If they don't turn things around by the All-Star break I'd definitely let him go.

I think Paxson is to blame ... but since Paxson rode Jordan's coattails and made one huge shot in Phoenix he'll get a free pass.

I don't know if Skiles needs to go, but he's a college coach trying to work his stuff in a pro game. I love what he stands for, but it just doesn't work at this level sadly.

Right now it's still on Paxson. He's had two drafts in a row to acquire a low post scorer and he's chosen Tyrus Thomas and Joakin Noah over LaMarcus Aldridge and trading the pick.

I just think Skiles is too much of a burden.  You can't be a tyrant around grown men.  It just doesn't work, no matter what league it is.  Heck, it doesn't work too well in real life jobs either.  Eventually things will break down.  Couple that with the fact that the one veteran on the team is a malcontent well past his overrated prime and there's going to be issues.

Paxson deserves quite a bit of blame too.  I don't necessarily blame him for trading Aldridge for Thomas because Thomas in a real offense would be great.  The biggest problem is that he's built a running team with a coach who wants to play a slowed down pace of game.  Thats not going to work.  Noah and Thomas would both be great running the floor and would negate their lack of a great offensive game.  Both of them are great defenders so if a team tried to slow it down on them (like say, the Spurs do to the Suns) they'd still be fine.

Paxson's other problem is that he is terrified to make a move.  Pau Gasol was there for the taking (granted asking for both Gordon and Deng was a bit high), and obviously the whole Kobe mess.  This team is missing that great leader with a cut throat mentality.  Can you imagine Kobe or KG leading this team?  They wouldn't take this crap right now.

You're right he is terrified to make a move. Sometimes you have to take great risks to reap great benefits.

I'm torn because I really like Tyrus. He's going to get to at least one all-star game in his time. He has a chance to be what McDyess could have been without knee problems. But I do agree completely with what you're saying about systems. Assuming the Skiles college style stays the Bulls would be better off trying to trade.

What do you think about Gordon and Thomas to the Suns for Marion and something else?

Playing around with the Trade Checker its kind of hard to match-up salaries for Marion.  The closest thing to a decent deal I could come up with is this.  I really don't care for that trade for the Bulls - they would lose too much offense.

This would obviously be a long shot, but they could see if the Wizards would be willing to part with Gilbert if they think he might leave.

Edit : Alright neither of those links worked.  The PHX deal I came up with was Marion, Raja Bell, and Brian Skinner for Ty Thomas, Ben Gordon, and Nocioni (I think Smith may've been in there too).

The Gilbert deal was Duhon, Gordon, and Thomas for Gil.
