I know we're all aware of the phrase "sex sells." And whether we want to admit it or not, it's true. But it's always hilarious when what we consider to be a respected mainstream media outlet decides that it too wants to participate in this game. Naturally, they don't do it in quite the same way as Playboy would, but that's basically the hilarity of it. They try their best to make it seem like what they're presenting us with is important on some level, even though it's just a poorly veiled excuse to post a picture of someone's tight butt that'll draw in readers or viewers or perverts.
Today's guilty party is NBC, which is looking to draw viewers in for the upcoming Olympic Games. And how are they doing that? By answering a question no one asked: Why do women's beach volleyball players make signs on their butts before a point starts?
Definitely a question that has kept me up for days on end.
Even better, they named it "Cracking the code." What, "hot Olympic butts" was already being used?
Take it away NBC:
Hand signals are frequently used by beach volleyball players to communicate to their partners. The signals - one or two fingers down, closed fist, etc. - generally let their partner know who should attempt a block at the net on their opponents' return.
And of course they follow that up with gratuitous butt shot...

And don't worry. NBC really wants you to learn those signals, so they have a ton more pictures.
So, what did we learn here? Hand signals are......good. Or something. That and I'll be watching a lot of women's beach volleyball during the Olympics.
