In a few days the month of February mercifully ends and we can finally start to enjoy sports again with March Madness on the horizon. Over the final three weeks of the college basketball season we'll be sizing up those teams on the bubble and let you determine who should be in or out.Up next: Syracuse Orange.
Why they could be in
Good Wins: 77-70 vs Georgetown
Strength of Schedule: 13 The 'Cuse has been left out of a few tournaments recently because of a cake walk preseason schedule. It bodes well they had a challenging pre-conference tilt, and the competitive Big East will help their cause.
Why they'd be left out
Overall Record: 17-11
Bad Losses: 78-89 at South Florida, 76-64 at Cincinnati, 89-91 vs Rhode Island, 100-107 vs UMass, 65-79 vs Ohio State. Not all of these are really that bad, but they are mostly bubble teams and when push comes to shove they've gotten the better side of the Cuse even if a lot were early in the season. The ratio of good wins to bad losses doesn't bode well.
4-6 in Last 10 Games - Very likely to go 1-2 in their final three games as well.
2-6 vs Top 50
Conclusion
Uh oh. Looks like we're going to have another Selection Sunday filled with Jim Boeheim complaining about how the tournament needs to be expanded ... so as to include his team. Sorry Jim, this isn't your year either unless you beat both Pittsburgh and Marquette at home to end the season and win a couple in the Big East tourney.
