NCAA Football Championship Week Live Thread

Everything Is On The Line Today In College Football. Literally. [NCAA Football Early Live Thread]

12/5/09 in NCAAF   |   Pat   |   5232 respect

There's a lot on the line today. Like I said in the title, it's pretty much everything. The winner of the SEC Championship books their trip to the BCS Championship game, and one of the players on the winning team has a great chance of winning the Heisman if they have a huge game. Whether it's Mark Ingram or Tim Tebow, one of them will make a case for Heisman today. Later tonight, Texas will play for their chance to make the title game, and for Colt McCoy's Heisman hopes.
Here's the early schedule:

12:00
Conference USA Championship:
-#21 Houston vs East Carolina [ESPN2]
#23 West Virginia vs Rutgers [ESPN]
#5 Cincinnati vs #15 Pittsburgh [ABC]

3:00
New Mexico State vs #6 Boise State

3:30
Arizona vs #18 USC [ABC]

4:00
SEC Championship:
-#1 Florida vs #2 Alabama [CBS]

6:30
#19 California vs Washington

If you're watching the games, here's your place to talk about them throughout the day. If you haven't done it yet, make your picks on our NCAA Football Pick 'Em Page. As always, enjoy the games!

Sorry you had to toe the line alone Andi. Youre quite the trooper... a true fan ... and a helluva a lady!

I am sorry that I actually have a life and friends to watch a game with.

This is in no way a shot at Andilee you know you are my girl.

Pat, you can go back and check every post I've ever made and you will find that I have NEVER said that any team could "never" beat an SEC team. All I ever say is that the SEC wins more than any other conference.

And, until proven otherwise, I will continue to say that. If some other conference steps up and surpasses the SEC, I will be the first to give credit where credit is due.

It's a lot easier to say "we could beat them if we just got a chance" than it is to actually beat them.

The point of my prior post was to suggest that the teams, that you and others claim don't get a chance, would get a chance to prove whether or not they can beat the "big boys". And, if they do, I will give them kudos.

I know, and that wasn't necessarily directed towards you in particular. There are, however, many people who believe that, despite teams like Utah and Boise State proving them wrong.

Sorry you had to face them alone but I had my Daughters Bday party today and had a lot of people over and could not be on the PC.

We lost but still had a great season and  have some work left to do, just can't have the same let down Bama had last year after this game. My hats off and sincere gratitude  to Tebow, Spikes and the Boys for the careers they have had and the enjoyment they have given us good luck in what ever you do after Florida and know we all love you and are proud of you.

Thank you sir. We need to remember that these are kids. They are definitely not the kind of kids we were, and are grown in so many more ways. But, the anguish and tears on their faces, say it. They are kids that played their hearts out. They are kids that have a dream. They are kids that have a future. Hopefully, they won't be the next Vick or Plaxico.

But for this one moment in time, you look at the end of their innocence. This it it for 1/2 that Gator squad.
Their youth is over. You cannot in good conscience, take away their accomplishments over the past 4 years, especially, just because the media has  pedestalized them. They didn't ask for that.

Bama played better today! Tebow does not deserve the Heisman this year. But, don't take away everything else they have done.

OK..I have soothed my wounds enough. C'Mon Texas! Opps sorry Scott, GO Huskers

Kudos for these comments and the original post.  Athletes play their game and try to be the best, the media is responsible for the hype.  An athletes skills or lack thereof should not be determined by one game.  Although I'm not a gator fan, you have to acknowledge Tebow's skills.  He has done a tremendous job of being a leader on and off the field and I think any comments to the contrary are wrong. Its ok to be a fan for you favorite team, but you can also give credit where it is due.

How sweet it is that the SEC will have its fourth different team shooting for its sixth national championship in twelve years.

My hope now is that Nebraska beats Texas so that Alabama plays TCU in the NC game, Florida plays Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl, and Texas plays Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. That way, there's the possibility there could be only one undefeated team left. Controversy could be eliminated.

I have no idea. Seriously. Even before this game, there was really no way to justify putting them above Alabama, even if you buy into the SEC bias.

And in come the HATERS

I am going to say this one time. One game, does not make a player. This kid has had 4 amazing years. You cannot take that from him. If you are honest with yourselves, you will admit that. as for the NFL, he is not an NFL QB. He is an NFL player, his leadership, and heart would do well in a TE position. (my opinion)
But before you go feeding on the frenzy, ask yourselves, did this kid give 100% every second of every day that he played in the past 4 years? DId he pump his team up at every given moment? Did he help win 2 NC? Did he win  a Heisman? Let's be serious people. He is a player, not the whole team!
Does he deserve the Heisman this year..NO. But don't take way from this kid his accomplishments!

I totally agree.  Double Thumbs up for ya!!

You should've seen this homemade pasta I made last night without owning enough flour. I went to my cabinet to see what I could use as a substitute or use with the little flour - so I went with pancake mix, it's mostly flour...50/50 pancake mix and flour, and when I finally put it in the water - they puffed up like churros They ended up tasting okay, but definitely the weirdest pasta I've ever seen.

LOL... great job by Cincy to anticipate where the ball was gonna be kicked. Cincy answers back but botches the PAT. Oh my...... What next?

These 2 QB's are throwing the ball as if they cant even see the defense out on the field. They seem to be throwing to spots on the field... irregardless what color jersey seems to be in the vicinity.

12/5/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

12/5/09   |   zzj000   |   388 respect

I hate to admit it, but I was terribly wrong. I thought Pitt would come out today and play a complete "4 Qtr" ballgame and simply wear down the Bearcats. Unfortunately for Pitt, they seem to have the same stamina as the Patriots. Good for 2 qtrs and done!
The only hope for Pitt in the 4th Qtr is that Pike keeps throwing lame duck passes up for grabs.
