NCAA Football: Five Under the Radar Games to Watch in Week 13
Here are five under the radar games this week:
Duke (8-2) at Wake Forest (4-6) - 12 PM ET, ESPN2
Duke won its sixth straight last week by dominating the fourth quarter against Miami. They've found a different gear in the final stanza in several of their games during the winning streak and they'll hope to do the same against a Wake Forest team that's only been able to muster up three points in its past two games. Sure, one of those was against Florida State, but a 13-0 loss to Syracuse wasn't exactly welcoming. With a win here, the Blue Devils are one step closer to the ACC title game.
BYU (7-3) at Notre Dame (7-3) - 3:30 PM ET, NBC
The Cougars have quietly compiled a 7-3 record on the the year. It should probably be better than that since they lost the season opener to a bad Virginia team and also had a chance to knock off Utah back in September. The Irish, on the other hand, gave one away at Pittsburgh a few weeks ago and would have entered this one winners of five in a row. Don't be surprised if BYU racks up major yardage on the ground, which should allow them to leave South Bend with a victory.
Vanderbilt (6-4) at Tennessee (4-6) - 7 PM ET, ESPN2
Despite a somewhat sloppy performance, Vanderbilt was able to lock up a third straight bowl appearance for the first time in school history with a win over Kentucky last weekend. Meanwhile, Butch Jones' team needs to beat the Commodores and Wildcats if they want to go bowling. That'll be easier said than done, although the Volunteers have been much better at home this season than on the road. The key for Tennessee will be stopping several speedy playmakers on the Vandy offense.
Michigan (7-3) at Iowa (6-4) - 12 PM ET, Big Ten Network
Michigan needed to survive a three overtime thriller against Northwestern to avoid losing three straight, and clearly they aren't playing their best football right now. If you look at Iowa's schedule, they haven't had any bad losses, with all four coming at the hands of current Top 25 teams. The Hawkeye defense could give Michigan some trouble early on which may slow any momentum the Wolverines walked out with a week ago. I think Iowa gets the win here.
#16 Northern Illinois (10-0) at Toledo (7-3) - 8 PM ET, ESPN2 (Wed.)
If Northern Illinois is to lose a game, this is probably the best chance since they play 1-10 Western Michigan next week. Toledo's only MAC loss of the season came at the hands of Ball State, who most seem to believe is the second best team in the conference beind the Huskies. Both teams feature outstanding rushing attacks, so expect to see the ball on the ground quite a bit on Wednesday night. Toledo should at least make this one interesting through three quarters.
