NCAA Football: Week 12 Game Rankings
Let's take a look at the top five games on the schedule for Week 12:
5. #25 Georgia (6-3) at #7 Auburn (9-1) - 3:30 PM ET, CBS
The Bulldogs have made their way back into the Top 25 after two straight wins. Meanwhile, Auburn has moved all the way up to seventh in the nation, which is a pretty incredible feat. But we all know that Gus Malzahn and company have bigger goals than just a Top 10 ranking: they want to beat Georgia and then turn their focus to Alabama. That in and of itself may be the problem, though. I could definitely see the Tigers overlooking this game and Georgia coming in and stealing a win.
4. #16 Michigan State (8-1) at Nebraska (7-2) - 3:30 PM ET, ABC
Despite being 8-1 and having a ridiculously good defense, Michigan State is still being overlooked. The reason for that is because six of their eight wins have come against below average competition. But the Michigan win last week proved to the nation that they can beat a quality team, and they'll get a chance to prove the same against Nebraska. This game likely decides who meets Ohio State in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title.
3. Ball State (9-1) at #15 Northern Illinois (9-0) - 8 PM ET, ESPN2 (Wed.)
A MAC game in the weekly game rankings? It's true, boys and girls. Northern Illinois is still undefeated on the season while Ball State has lost only once. The Huskies have won 24 straight at home but there's no doubt that the Cardinals provide one of the toughest challenges of the season thus far. The good news for Northern Illinois is that they have one of the best rushing attacks in the country, and since they are at home, they should be able to control the ball and move to 10-0 following this one. This will be close though.
2. #12 Oklahoma State (8-1) at #24 Texas (7-2) - 3:30 PM ET, FOX
Back in September, we were talking about Mack Brown being fired. Now, the Longhorns are riding a six game winning streak and still haven't lost a game in Big 12 play. They were close a week ago in Morgantown but found a way to win it in overtime. This week, Texas plays an Oklahoma State team that has been putting up points in a hurry over the past several weeks and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. I think the Cowboys control this game from start to finish and come away with a win.
1. #4 Stanford (8-1) at USC (7-3) - 8 PM ET, ABC
Considering how the season started for USC, Ed Orgeron has done a masterful job at turning the Trojans' football program around in a few short months. And that's what makes this game against Stanford so interesting. The Cardinal still have a legitimate shot at playing for the national championship if they can get some help, so there's a lot on the line here. After a huge win over Oregon, a letdown could be in store for David Shaw's team. Given how well USC has been playing, that simply can't happen. I wanna go out on a limb and take the Trojans, but I'll stick with Stanford to win a game that will go right down to the wire.
