The American Eagles (no relation to the clothing company) were 20-point underdogs headed into this 15 vs 2 matchup. Odds are mostly irrelevant come tourney time for these low seeds. Garrison Carr, a 5'11, 165 lb junior, went all Austin Carr on the Vols. Channeling Double Dribble and finding his hot spot on the court, he went off for 26 points and kept American (and fans) into the game.
The final score doesn't remotely tell you how competitive this game was. Should Butler advance over South Alabama, the Eagles provided a perfect game plan. Conveniently, Butler already plays that way. Upset? Yes.
