What's more impressive - 110.5 points scored or 40.5 points allowed? North Carolina has been getting all the ooh's and ahh's and rightfully so. They've been an offensive juggernaut in disposing quickly of Mount St. Mary's and Arkansas. Let's make sure to keep our feet on the floor, though, those two schools aren't going to be in any conversation that involves the '85 Bears and '01 Ravens.
Washington State has been doing it there way, stunningly holding Notre Dame to 41 points. 41. They averaged 80 this season. The Irish shot 25% and looked as effective on offense as their football friends. I'm not so sure it isn't the Cougars who've been the most impressive team this far and have shown they're more than capable of tripping up a great offense.
However, it's hard to ignore the mismatch at point guard. If not for Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson would be the most outstanding player of the tournament thus far and Taylor Rochestie is no match. That might be as big as mismatch as Tony Bennett's attire will have on Roy Williams, but I digress.
I don't doubt the Cougars can throw the Tar Heels of their game offensively, but it's going to take a perfectly pitched game for WSU on their own offensive end of the court. Derrick Low needs to be unconscious from three, Kyle Weaver can do some damage on Danny Green, but then Robbie Cowgill and Aron Baynes will have to magically get Hansbrough in foul trouble. I doubt the officials oblige.
It's worth noting these two teams are currently #5 and #6 in Ken Pomeroy's ratings which have done a hell of a job predicting the tournament thus far. It'll be a closer game than either team has played so far, one just has too many horses.
Prediction: Tar Heels 77-71
