Half Of The Sweet 16 Is Set. In Other News, My Bracket Is Screwed. [Saturday NCAA Tourney Scores]
#3 Villanova 89, #6 UCLA 69
Villanova rolled over UCLA with relative ease, picking up a 20 point win that was never really in doubt at all. After a couple minutes of tight basketball, Villanova took the lead less than 5 minutes into the game, and led the rest of the way. They will play Duke next.
#2 Memphis 89, #10 Maryland 70
Greivis Vazquez and his trash talk went nowhere against the Memphis Tigers, as the Terps stumbled out of the gate, and went into halftime with a 20 point deficit. Vazquez had 18 points and 5 assists, but it wasn't nearly enough. Memphis plays the winner of tomorrow's matchup between Marquette and Mizzou.
#1 UConn 92, #9 Texas A&M 66
Jim Calhoun returned to the bench for the Huskies, and it was business as usual, as they completely dominated the Aggies throughout. AJ Price and Jeff Adrien combined for 50 points, and UConn goes on to play Purdue in the Sweet 16.
#5 Purdue 76, #4 Washington 74
This was a great game, and while Washington trailed most of the way, they came within inches of a great comeback, falling just short at the end. The Boilermakers played a great game, and the rough day for the Pac-10 continued.
#1 North Carolina 84, #8 LSU 70
The return of Ty Lawson was huge for the Tar Heels, as he dropped 21 points in the 2nd half, taking over a game that was extremely close for a while. The game was actually tied at 63 with 8:41, but then UNC simply dominated, and ended up with a double-digit win. Their next game is against Gonzaga.
#2 Oklahoma 73, #10 Michigan 63
Blake Griffin showed once again why he's the best player in the country, finishing with a ridiculous 33 points and 17 rebounds, leading Oklahoma to the win. They will prepare to face the winner of Syracuse and Arizona State.
#4 Gonzaga 83, #12 Western Kentucky 81
The Hilltoppers' Cinderella run almost continued, but was stopped short by a Demetri Goodson runner with less than a second left on the clock. WKU actually had the lead with only 7 seconds left, only to see it slip away to Gonzaga. Another underdog bites the dust, and Gonzaga will be the next underdog, when they play UNC in the Sweet 16.
#2 Duke 74, #7 Texas 69
Gerald Henderson and his 24 points led the Blue Devils to victory against the Longhorns in their second round matchup. Duke will play Villanova next.
