NCAA Tournament Sunday Second Round Thread: Who's Says There Are No Cinderellas?
There's that Jordan brand commercial running right now that claims 'There are no Cinderellas.' I beg to differ. The Tampa Bay venue begs to differ.

Maybe the higher seeds were just so frightened when they saw this image. Entirely possible, don't you think?

The second half of the Sweet 16 will be decided today and it's going to include at least two double-digit seeds, maybe even three if Stephen Curry continues to stroke it from downtown.

Let's hope we find a few more upsets in our Easter basket.

12 Villanova vs 13 Siena (12:10) This will undoubtedly be an entertaining up and down game with Tay Fisher and Scottie Reynolds trying to outmatch each other from the perimeter. Siena is hot, but Villanova's inside strength should take over late. Pick: Wildcats 84-78

2 Texas vs 7 Miami-FL (2:15) Either Jack McClinton is hot early and the Hurricanes build confidence to stick around or this will be over in 10 minutes. One way I see Miami hanging in late or even winning is if Dwayne Collins can get the Longhorns frontcourt into foul trouble. There's not a lot of depth there and if McClinton is hitting, Collins could be the same force he was against Duke earlier this season. Should stay relatively close. Pick: Longhorns 80-74

2 Tennessee vs 7 Butler (2:30) I love this matchup for Butler. They're the perfect slower-paced, take care of the ball offense that is needed to beat the Vols. So long as the entire Bulldogs team isn't cold, we'll see a mild upset. Pick: Bulldogs 76-71

2 Georgetown vs 10 Davidson (2:50) Davidson's a fun team to root for, with a 13-year-old that can hit it from anywhere inside half court. Best chance the Wildcats have is an unconscious 3-point effort because there won't be any looks from inside. If I'm John Thompson III I run three-four different bigger bodies at Stephen Curry (Freeman, Rivers, Wallace and maybe even Summers) and where him down with some physical play. Hibbert needs to get in the mindset to start taking over these games. If the Hoyas advance, they'll need that to beat Wisconsin and Kansas. Pick: Hoyas 73-58

12 Western Kentucky vs 13 San Diego (2:50) A matchup between our newest OT buzzer beating friends. The winner here is definitely a Cinderella and I'm not sure I care who it is. Western Kentucky seems like the team that could give UCLA the most trouble with two go-to scorers in Brazelton and Lee. I wouldn't be surprised to see the former go off for another 30+ effort. Pick: Hilltoppers 77-72

1 Memphis vs 9 Mississippi State (4:45) It's been a long time since the Tigers have faced a physical defensive team and I believe it will be a shock to the system, throwing their usually very efficient offense off it's game. Say goodbye to our first #1 seed. Pick: Bulldogs 78-77

3 Louisville vs 6 Oklahoma (5:00) Cardinals defense too much of an advantage. Pick: 66-59

1 North Carolina vs 9 Arkansas (5:15) The only chance Arkansas has of stopping the Tar Heels fast break is if Ty Lawson trips over Steven Hill's hair. Pick: UNC 85-72

Q it up here. 7 more hours of hoops. Enjoy.

Being that I never picked Siena, Nova, Western Kentucky, or San Diego; those two games don't interest me much, unless we get other buzzer beaters there..

I have all the higher seeds winning today besides those two games, so while I hope for close games and exciting basketball; not hoping for too many upsets...

I picked both Villanova and Siena, and then have Nova moving on so I am feeling really good right now. My bracket looks great so time to enjoy the games today.

That Nike "No Cinderellas" commercial is awesome.  Nike is on top of their game right now with commercials.

Tennessee may live by the 3 like Duke does, but one big difference: Tennessee can make them, often.

Lofton may have just done the most blatant travels, and the ref that had easy position to see it is looking at the Butler coach to finish a convo...nice job guys.

Does more Stephen Curry make up for having to deal with Billy Packer?

I think it also drives him crazy that he has to praise the Small School he goes to. I wouldn't put it past Packer to root for Georgetown. I am only getting live lookins for it, being in Oklahoma they think that I want to watch Texas play. It sucks.

Whistles galore so far. Lovedale has two fouls for Davidson, and Hibbert and Summers have two already as well.

Nice to see Butler recover from their slow start.

Despite Curry having just 2 points, despite shooting 1-8 from three so far, and despite their center being inactive with two fouls, Davidson's only down 2.

Wow.

Only reasoning I guess can be from your last post with G'towns foul trouble?

That, and some turnovers, and since I posted that, GTown went on a mini-run and is up 6. Curry is now on the bench with 2 fouls.

Now a 14 point lead...damn, that was quick.

Great graphic just shown: The #1, #2, and #3 seeds are 17-1 so far, which Duke of course the only loss.

I am hoping Tennessee will join them later this afternoon.

Being an OU student, it is en grained in me to hate everything Texas but those Cheerleaders they have look amazing. I feel like that is blasphemous for me to say that.

Anyone else notice that every time we are taken to another game that game automatically goes to commercial? It has drove me nuts for two days now.

Go Davidson and Butler! Let's have some Madness!

Butler needs to run the picket fence. They can't get caught watching the paint dry either.

lol, that was exactly my reaction when I saw the updated score.

I don't know what is a sadder moment. Augustin being one of the best shooters in the nation badly airballing (?) a free throw in the clutch or Ginyard badly bricking a dunk on a fastbreak.

Awful play by Georgetown.  Does ANYONE know how to pass?  Should've been called for a charge too.

Curry is going to the line up four with 16.3 seconds left. Do I smell upset?

BTW, Curry is now easily my favorite player not wearing a Carolina Blue uniform.

Easy Tennessee player on the bench holding his jersey up like they are big time. You were favored and the higher seed.

Question is what will Curry do to Wisconsin's defense now? How would you like to face Georgetown then Wisconsin as a scorer.

My guess is they're saying something like "Davidson wouldn't go 6-12 in the Big East, and they'd go 0-a billion against the ACC. Tyler Hansborough is so pretty."

I just realized the Georgetown loss is probably the deathblow in my Wii hopes. I had them in the Elite Eight, and I was already behind due to the first three days.

Oh well.

I had them Elite 8 also but I have done pretty well so far. I am hoping that someone who does win the Wii wasn't recruited by anyone so I can win that gift card.

Most teams would shoot a three when down 4 with 7 seconds left. That just shows how much people believe in Memphis and their free throw shooting.

CDR misses the first so I guess the plan worked. Either way Miss St can tie with a three...

AHH! Off the backboard.

3/23/08

So Calapari, how confident are you in your team shooting free throws now? Almost cost you the game this time.

On a great note, Lawson looks like 100% for the second straight game, Deon and Flex are both dominating which they were a little inconsistent during the regular season, and Q is playing better off the bench. For some reason Q only plays well when he is starting, glad he figured out a good role off the bench.

7/8 Elite Eight teams (Butler) and 11/16 Sweet Sixteen teams (Butler, Vandy, G'Town, UK, Drake, dook). I am not as happy as you about that.

I was wrong. I did have GTown in the Final Four, so I'm out of contention.  Thus, I'm hoping for Davidson-WKU in the championship game.

I'm currently in 2nd place, but I think I am going to go down hill from here...  2 of my Elite 8 teams are out and I had Georgetown in the Championship game.  If Davidson goes to the championship game and UCLA wins it all, I might be OK...

No idea where to put this. Anyone watching the Warriors v. Lakers game? 72-49 Warriors lead at the end of the first half and the Lakers are now down by 4 with two minutes left.

I haven't watched much of the NBA season this year and you forget how fluid the professional game is when compared to the college game. Shots you would normally yell, "No!" at the screen during a college game is a normal shot in the NBA.
Such a great playoff race going on. Too bad the playoffs will be far less fulfilling when you do not keep up with the regular season.
