NCAA Week 3 Live Thread

Welcome To Week 3, In Which Urban Meyer Takes Lane Kiffin To The Woodshed [NCAA Football Live Thread]

9/19/09 in NCAAF   |   Pat   |   5229 respect

Another week of college football, and the games are starting to get a little interesting. This week's highlights will be Oklahoma trying to take on upstart Tulsa without Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham, and Lane Kiffin taking his Vols into Gainesvill and taking on the defending champion Florida Gators. Kiffin has already talked his share of smack, but I don't think it will help against the Gators.

In the other notable game, #13 Virginia Tech continues their early-season gauntlet against #19 Nebraska. This is the 2nd of 3 ranked teams in their first 4 games. They already lost to Alabama, and they'll play Miami next week.

Here's the schedule of the nationally televised games, and the games involving ranked teams:

12:00
Eastern Michigan vs #25 Michigan
#8 California vs Minnesota [ESPN]
East Carolina vs #24 North Carolina [ESPN2]
Temple vs #5 Penn State
Duke vs #22 Kansas
#11 Ohio State vs Toledo
North Texas vs #4 Alabama

3:30
Tennessee vs #1 Florida [CBS]
Michigan State vs Notre Dame [NBC]
Tulsa vs #12 Oklahoma
#19 Nebraska vs #13 Virginia Tech [ABC]
#3 USC vs Washington [ABC]
#18 Utah vs Oregon [ESPN]
Arizona vs Iowa [ABC]

If you haven't done it yet, make sure you make your game picks on our NCAA Football Pick 'Em Page. And as always, enjoy the games!

Bold prediction and I'm hoping Maryland wins anyway.

It will be great to see how Urban Myers offense and playbook works for his QB's in Florida. It will also give the fans  good idea as to how much they will be behind him after Tebow leaves for the Pro's.

its funny because all week ive been saying UF will not kill UT because of monte kiffin and the defense wont allow even the spread points. Everyone kept arguing and now all i gotta say is "i love being right" . more trash talking started by urban... cant wait til next year.

Pitt up 24-7 after 3, they keep doing what they're supposed to be doing based on expectations.

And Ohio State isn't feeling real well about that game either.  They were counting on the Trojans running the table to help their SoS.  This could sting the Buckeyes at the end of the season.

9/19/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Looks like 21-7 Pitt at the half.

9/19/09   |   Heyhey1970   |   194 respect

Another Big Ten giveaway.  The Michigan St. quarterback misses a guy open by 20 yards in the end zone and then on the next play throws one up for grabs (when MSU was already in field goal range).

Hell of a game by Clausen, and Weis lives to see another game

9/19/09   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

What a pick

9/19/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Check that, Pitt is nearing the red zone.  Navy has been sloppy so far.  Not only did they miss that FG, they fumbled the opening kickoff.

9/19/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Navy missed a FG, still 14-7 Pitt.

If they run the table and Washington ends up winning 9+ games, USC could still end up in the discussion at the end of the year.

These afternoon games have certainly lived up to there billing.  Oregon ends Utah's 16 game winning streak, Virginia Tech scores with less then 30 seconds to knockoff Nebraska 16-15 and Notre Dame/Michigan State are in a shootout in South Bend

And Pitt retakes the lead. Maybe they can take out Navy (since I know Army won't be able to, again)

At least they didn't disallow this touchdown. I still can't see how the earlier one wasn't good

There it is, goodnight USC!

16-13, Washington beating USC with 3 seconds left.

Hell of a play by the Huskies and an extra 15 yards tacked on for a roughing the passer call on the Trojans, 1st and goal!

9/19/09   |   Pat   |   5229 respect

Great play by Washington to get to the USC 15... and a roughing the passer penalty, to boot. Washington is going to win this game.

9/19/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

55 seconds to go in Washington.

9/19/09   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

USC is in a dog fight, the lack of 3rd down conversions don't help matters much.  Meanwhile, Pitt went down the field on the opening drive for a TD.

9/19/09   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

No matter what USC should drop a few spots in the rankings

Washington up 3 on USC. Its a little early in the season, but is it time for USC to choke already?

9/19/09   |   Pat   |   5229 respect

Oregon's uniforms look hideous today, but they're beating Utah 28-24 in the 4th.

9/19/09   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

Yeah I'm impressed with Tennessee so far. I thought Florida would be all over them today

9/19/09   |   Scott   |   51998 respect

I think it's safe to say that the Tennessee defense is going to keep the Vols in alot of games this season.  If they can get a passing offense to go with there rushing, they could make some noise down the stretch of the SEC schedule

9/19/09   |   Scott   |   51998 respect

This just in.... Florida has finally given up there first touchdown of the season

9/19/09   |   Pat   |   5229 respect

Nice fumble, Tebow.

9/19/09   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

Washington is a dangerous team this year. I think it was on the BSU-FSU game last night, where the commentators were discussing the game against USC, and how they couldn't see how it was possibly going to be a "trap" game.

9/19/09   |   Scott   |   51998 respect

USC and Washington tied at 10 heading into the 4th quarter

7 first half penalties against Notre Dame. Weis might want to consider packing his bags at halftime

9/19/09   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

Did Meyer spend the first half looking for the woodshed? Down 7 at half isn't much of a beating.

Posted this on the watching thread but, If anyone here knows anyone at the OU game today, would you please ask them to go to the TV booth and kill FoxSW color man Dave "The Moronic Madden Wannabe" Lapham?  The Sooner Nation will thank you and I will personally nominate you for FanIQer of the Year!  Thank you kindly!

9/19/09   |   tpowell25   |   1627 respect

With all of the talk about Kiffin and Meyer, I completely forgot about the Tebow'Berry matchup.  They've had one great head-on collision and Berry has an interception.  It's a fun matchup to watch.

Washington sticking right with the Trojans! This is a great game. SO hard to believe this is a team that lost EVERY one of their games last year!

Who barks for Sark?

Absolutely, Scott.  Congrats to Northern Illinois University for their first win against the Big Ten in 21 years.  They almost won at Wisconsin and deserved to win at Purdue today.  The MAC continues to play the Big Ten tough.
