About Me:
I've been a NASCAR fan since the '80's. I have about as much Jr memorabilia as I could possibly find being in Canada. I have two kids, boy aged 14 and daughter aged 9. I met my hubby 10 years later than I should have. We both played in a ball tournament in a City we both travelled to (about 500 miles apiece) and were supposed to play each other's teams, but didn't. I've worked as a fire fighter, legal secretary, disc jockey, store manager, bartender, etc.
I read a couple of hours ago that Ryan Newman's No. 12 Alltel Dodge team has been slapped with a 25 point driver penalty and a 25 point Owner's penalty to Roger Penske. Also, his crew chief Roy McAuley has been assessed a $25,000 fine and place on probation until December 31st, 2008.
NASCAR.com quoted that the penalty was as follows:
"The No. 12 car driven by Ryan Newman was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock-car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 12.8.1C (right-rear quarter panel height did not meet the required specification; too high in post-race inspection) of the 2008 NASCAR rule book."
Now, my question is this, why only 25 points? Why on $25,000? The most recent COT infractions have been given fines of 100 points and $100,000 to the crew chief. So, what exactly WAS the infraction? What was the height infraction? In "My Humble Opinion" it must have been a minimal increase over what was allowable either intentional (but no advantage) or untintional . But, what is NASCAR's thinking? Was the infraction seen as unintentional? and hence the smaller fine? Or was it intentional but not felt to give an advantage? Every week it seems we hear our beloved commentators/announcers give us their opinion of why NASCAR does what they do, but we never seem to get the full story from NASCAR. Why can't NASCAR give us the full story? But you see, they don't, so we are all here giving our "opinions" on why they did what they did. So, weigh in. My opinion has been given, what do YOU think?
