NFL Coaching Hot Seat: Who Will Be Fired First?
Lane Kiffin and Scott Linehan In A Heated Race
We're only three weeks into the NFL season and there's already plenty of coaches on the hotseat. Regardless of what type of talent a general manager provides a head coach, it's win for me now or see you later.

Here's how we see the race to become the first fired coach this season stacking up:

Just A Matter Of When

1. Lane Kiffin, Raiders
Almost assuredly going to be the first fired coach, and we're stunned it hasn't happened already. Kiffin's a good coach, and could very well be great at the college level, but Al Davis blew this hiring and now he's blowing the firing. News leaked last week that the 33-year-old coach would be fired if the Raiders didn't beat the Chiefs on Sunday. Surprisingly, the silver and black went into Kansas City and ran over the Chiefs by two touchdowns. We can't be too sure what Davis is thinking, but for Kiffin's sake, hopefully the Raiders lose this week and he can get on with his coaching career. Speaking of which, how about Syracuse? Kiffin's a college guy and his energy and offensive game planning experience at USC could be a great boost to a struggling program that should be competing in the Big East.

2. Scott Linehan, Rams
Before last week it was a near lock that Kiffin would be the first NFL coach fired. Then Linehan blew up at the post-beatdown press conference, indicating he's not far behind the Raiders coach. St. Louis has scored 16 points in two weeks (worst in the NFL), while allowing 79 (2nd worst). Steven Jackson's hold out was bad luck, but the Rams haven't shown any promise under his reign. Very little chance he makes it past this season.

Wouldn't Surprise Me

3. Marvin Lewis, Bengals

I desperately want to like Lewis, but he's made far too many mistakes in Cincinnati and the Bengals pathetic play is all on him. Lewis talks a good game, always demanding high character, but his actions haven't followed suit. He'll be the head coach all season, but an offseason move is looking more and more likely.

4. Mike Nolan, 49ers
I like Nolan a great deal and don't think he deserves to be fired this offseason, but considering he was on the verge of losing his job last year, it's inevitable if San Fransisco can't reach 7 or more wins. In the NL West NFC West, 7 wins isn't all that difficult and a win on the road in Seattle last Sunday was a great start.

Safe, But Getting Warmer

5. Norv Turner, Chargers
Granted the loss last Sunday wasn't all on him, but his complaining was a little embarrassing, seeing as how the Chargers had numerous other opportunities to overcome Ed Hochuli's gaffe. If San Diego fails to make the playoffs, I have a hard time believing the front office will continue with an average head coach who's better off as an OC.

6. Romeo Crennel, Browns
QB controversies are a head coach's nightmare. Stunningly, Browns fans are pleading for Brady Quinn and if the team keeps playing as poor as it has the first two weeks, it's only a matter of time before Crennel takes all the heat. It's hard to see now, but the Browns are getting closer and I hope he's given some time.

7. Rod Marinelli, Lions
Don't laugh (OK, fine), but I think Marinelli is a good coach. But with Matt Millen in charge, the Lions will always fail and the GM will continue to find scapegoat after scapegoat.

Do you think anyone besides Kiffin and Linehan is fired this season?

With the Rams bye week looming in two weeks, I think Linehan has this week against Seattle and next week against Buffalo to show the Rams front office some progress.  I dont think it'll happen though, the Rams are awful and the players have no confidence in anything that Linehan has tried to instill.  The Rams have more problems then just the head coach and when Linehan goes, they should really take a hard look at GM Jay Zygmunt as well.  Until the Rams learn to start drafting better and spend there money in the offseason more wisely, they'll continue to be in this same predicament year in and year out

I agree about Nolan. He doesn't deserve to be fired after this season. He deserved to be fired last year.

Lane Kiffin should resign not be fired.  He is realizing exactly what Mike Shanahan and others already knew.  Al Davis has no idea what the heck is going on in today's NFL anymore.  As Ray Buchanan said on ESPN this morning, the players have worn out the rug between the locker room and the owner's office by sidestepping the one to the coaches's office.  Lane's dad Monte knows more in his pinky finger about defense than Rob Ryan will ever know.  Lane get out before you sink with the rest of this pathetic organization.

(Edited by Scott)

When Georgia Frontiere died earlier this year, ownership of the team went to her son and daughter.  Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez are the majority owners, but Rosenbloom is the one who is handling all the everyday duties that come with being the owner, including meeting with officials on the possibility of a new stadium for the Rams.

To be honest, Scott Linehan should've been fired at the end of last season.  He just isnt the right fit for the Rams and has actually gotten worse as his coaching career as gone on.  After two weeks of getting it handed to them and no signs of anything positive, I see nothing wrong with cutting there losses and starting over.  However, like I said earlier, just getting rid of Linehan wont turn everything around overnight, but it would be a step in the right direction

FEMA called and they said everyone on the list has been declared a disaster.
