Every second, we are getting closer to the start of the NFL season. (Hooray!) This week, we will look at each division, and see the best and worst the NFL has to offer. We will also see what FanIQ thinks will happen in each division.
Today, we take a look at the AFC South, a division that the past few years has been won by the Colts, who won 12 on the way to the Super Bowl. The Jaguars disappointed, after being in the playoffs in 2005, they only won 8 last year. Tennessee also won 8, and Houston won 6.
Schedule: NFC South, AFC West
Houston Texans
The Texans didn't go out and change the offensive line much, and the group they have doesn't look too good. They decided that the way to fix all problems is an unproven QB in Schaub. Ahman Green is an improvement for sure at running back, but he isn't a real game changer. Not to mention that they still have no receivers outside of Andre Johnson. This offense doesn't look so good. On the other side, they are slowly building up their defensive line, but they are still young. The linebackers aren't bad, but the secondary has some major holes, especially the safeties. I think this isn't going to be a fun year for the Texans, and you agree.
My Prediction: 4-12
FanIQ Says: 5-11
Tennessee Titans
The offensive line for Tennessee isn't bad, but they won't win any awards. The rest of the offense is a major concern. They lack a proven running back, being left with an average and often injured Chris Brown, and a work ethic lacking LenDale White, and a rookie in Henry. They also lack any receiving threats, with the best option as an old and no longer very productive player in Eric Moulds. Not to mention a QB who's yet to prove he can pass efficiently in the NFL. Defensively, the line is not bad, the linebackers are pretty good, but they have a hole inside. The corners leave a bit to be desired, and the safeties are solid. I think this is going to be a tough year for this team; however you think they'll do better than I do.
My Prediction: 4-12
FanIQ Says: 6-10
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars have a pretty good offensive line, they just need to hope that center Brad Meester will miss minimal time with his injury. They've got a great 1-2 running back punch with Taylor and Jones-Drew. The concern is the passing game. They still lack a proven receiver, and there are questions about Leftwich's durability. Defensively, they have one of the best run stopping lines in the league. They have a fairly good linebacker group, although there is a little worry there. They have pretty good corners, and with the addition of Sammy Knight, solid safeties. Defensively, the Jags should be very good this year. I think they have a big year and make the playoffs, you think they just get over .500.
My Prediction: 12-4
FanIQ Says: 9-7
Indianapolis Colts
The biggest concerns offensively are Glenn's retirement and the lack of any depth behind Addai. The Colts have a very good line still without Tarik, so that shouldn't be a huge concern. As long as Addai stays healthy, they are set at the running game, and there might not be a team better passing the ball this year. Defensively, they have a lot of problems. With McFarland going down, they have no size at all on the defensive line, and the great pass rushers of Freeney and Mathis won't be much use if all teams are doing is running the ball. They have a very weak group of linebackers, and two first time starters at corner. They are set at safety provided Bob Sanders doesn't have his annual injury, but if you thought that run D was awful last year, it looks like it will be even worse this year. All this with one of the hardest schedules in the NFL (uncommons AT Baltimore and NE, plus at SD) I think the Colts are going to be fighting to get a wild card. You, however, think they will remain dominant.
My Prediction: 11-5
FanIQ Says: 14-2
Let's take a look at the division outlook.
My Prediction
Jacksonville 12-4
Indianapolis 11-5

FanIQ Says
Indianapolis 14-2
Jacksonville 9-7
Tennessee 6-10

As a Colts fan, I hope FanIQ's predictions are closer to correct than mine, although I think Jacksonville will very tough. We'll find out soon enough.
Tomorrow, it is the AFC East we look at.
