NFL Draft Day 2 Live Thread: Where Ridiculous Super Bowl Catches Are Born

As countless commercials have accurately portrayed, today is when team's build championships. Yesterday, was when teams (Tennessee) lose them.

David Tyree was a 6th round pick for the New York Giants in the 2003 Draft. We all know the Tom Brady story, etc.

Detroit got things started today in Round 3 by selected Kevin Smith of Central Florida. All he did was rush for more yards than anyone the last two seasons. Could be a steal ... but then again, it is the Lions.

Feel free to chat up Day 2 right here.

I don't know if the Bears have drafted the best possible player, but they've at least addressed their biggest needs. That hasn't been a sure bet lately.

WR Earl Bennett of Vandy early in Round 3 ... sure, I'll take it. He's already the best WR on the team.

Patriots take a QB in the third round ... let the QB controversy begin. Or not.

Still though, interesting pick to go with Kevin O'Connell from SDSU.

Mario Manningham goes to the G-Men. I'm sure he won't get into any trouble in New York.

Matt Castle better watch his back.

I commented for two reasons: 1) work is boring and 2) I felt bad for you because you had been talking to yourself.

49ers took a corner, I think safety is much more pressing, but ok.

Colts took a good tackling linebacker, I like it.

And as usual, ESPN only talks about QB's and running backs.  Mute.

Reggie Smith played safety at OU and was probably a better safety than corner. Might be too small to play safety in the NFL.

Bears draft a DT who's been arrested and injured a few times. Didn't they just release a DT who fit that role?

I think Justin King is a Day 2 guy that could end up a pro bowler. Nice work, StL.

Eh, they've been covering all positions equally.

They might move Walt Harris to safety.  Next pick by them was a center, I suppose the more line help the better.

Not from what I've watched, they've brushed by everyone and really went in to depth with the "Fantasy Football" positions.  Granted, I stopped watching after about 20 minutes, so maybe I hit a bad stretch.

Good work by the Bengals getting Collins from Kansas.

Bears continue to keep trading down. Twice now in the 4th round, stockpiling on 7th round picks. Apparently they aren't going to be satisfied until they get every 7th round pick and Mr. Irrelevant.

The best name of the draft so far goes to Reggie Corner, cornerback from Akron.

Tony Reali doing draft coverage?  Interesting...

Bears just took a safety, I assume they realize that Mike Brown will never stay healthy.

As we all know ... that's until Shane Longest, Kicker from St. X, gets selected.

Yea, the cowboys are trying to maych that, although i havent seen one clip of what their getting in return. They've traded down like 3 times in the forth and completely out of the third round. Mabey they'll actually address another need and offer detroit half of the 7th round for roy williams. Throw in the other Roy just for kicks.

Thats only three for the cowboys now. Coleman will end up on the practice squad agian. That leaves Jones, Barber, and this guy.

Two best picks of the day so far are Shawn Crable to the Patriots and Early Doucet to the Cardinals.  The Cardinals are going to have one hell of a 3 wide set, and Crable is going to be a great pass rusher, although not much more than that.

Alright, Colts time.  Wouldn't mind to see more O-line depth, but I think a DT is the best choice here.

Today's always the day I say "I'm not going to watch this all day. I have no idea who most of these players are." Every year without fail, I watch it all day, and this year will be no different unless it's not over by the time the IndyCar race starts at 5.

Tight End?  Really?   Come on Colts, we don't need to waste a pick on a TE...Ugh.

The Packers first pick today was a 243 lb. tight end. I'm gonna take a guess and say he wasn't drafted for his blocking.

How is Brandon Lloyd a Key Loss? Did he make a mean sweet potato pie after practice or something?

I like the pick only because he has a fun name.  At least we know we'll get that much out of him.

Brandon-One-Crazy-Catch-A-Year Llyod. Was wondering the same thing myself.

Anyone else find it amazing how much Andre Woodson's stock has dropped?  There was a time when he was considered possibly the best QB in this class.

Took the Steelers long enough to draft a lineman.

Probably has something to do with the fact he scored a 6 i think on the wonderlick test. I wouldnt trust him to call plays for my team....

Ha... Jack Ikegwuonu finally goes.  Poor choice by him to leave school now, although Philly could be getting a top quality CB or somebody who got lucky one year and is a complete bust.

The Lions just drafted a WR, of course.

How many trades are the Packers going to make here?

Minnesota drafts John David Booty.  I'm guessing this is their way of being able to make Tavaris Jackson look good compared to the alternative.

4/27/08

Whoa, that's ironic.  Booty said that he wanted to go to Minnesota, and there he went.

New Orleans has only had 3 picks, but I really like their draft so far. Ellis, Porter, and now Pressley should be a good solid foundation for a defense.

That was until scouts took into consideration how terribly slow his delivery is. I do find it odd though, he was ever considered that high of a pick.

He should still get drafted in this territory. I'd be happy if it was the Bears.

Gary Barnidge to Carolina?  eh...I'd have liked him to go somewhere else

Apparently Teddy is a big fan of Louisville.  I was hoping for Mike Hart but at least he fills a need.

He must be going to the Derby next weekend and is trying to score free mint juleps.

Hey, at this rate, he can stop by my place.  I live about a mile from the track and I'll be glad to hook him up with some mint juleps.

A pure pass rusher, interesting.

Dennis Dixon to the Stillers. Interesting. Wonder if he'll become a much better version of Kordell 'slash' Stewart

Washington chooses to take the honor of having Colt Brennan fail to develop into anything.

ANOTHER Tight end?  Stupid Colts!

Mike Hart is still on the board.  I don't like the guy, but I think he'll be a very good #2 guy - the kind of guy who can take a few carries away from your #1 guy and keep him healthier.

4/27/08

Two straight for the Colts here, no more tight ends!!!

Wait, how was McFarland their key loss?  He didn't even play!!!  They lost Jake Scott, the starting guard (And a good one) and ESPN says the key loss is McFarland?  WTF?

4/27/08

Steven Justice: Another quick lineman, who could fit the system.

Mike Hart: He'll be the 3rd RB, but if he develops well, he could be a solid backup.

Pierre Garcon: Kick Returner???  Not sure we need another WR, but why not.

With their last pick in the 7th, I hope they look at some kickers.  Vinatieri was a bum last year and is old, would be nice to get someone ready to take over there.
