One of the all-time best draft highlights was last year's epic fall - or fail - of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. The whole spectacle from Brady believing he was going to be the No. 1 overall selection, to the countless shots of his increasingly less pleased girlfriend, to Roger Goodell having to remove Quinn from the green rooms to avoid the humiliation of network cameras.
It was all very beautiful.
In retrospect, it appears even the Browns reached to jump up to No. 22 to soften Quinn's fall and add another QB to the roster. Of course, not even most Cleveland coaches expected to see the dramatic rise of Derek Anderson.
Two questions here: 1) Did Cleveland make a mistake? 2) Who do think will have the biggest fall from expectations in this year's draft?
How about Colt Brennan not getting drafted at all. That'd be fun.
We really don't know if he sucks in the NFL. College success or failure doesn't always translate to Pro success or failure. At least give him a shot to get destroyed then we can all agree that he sucks.
I'm still wondering how anyone thinks that he has potential. I think the Dolphins made a mistake with that pick, but it wasn't in passing on Quinn. I just think there were a few players that could have helped their team more than Ginn.
Think guys like Quinn are happy now that they got all that 'great advice' from their agents....and held out in training camp for a few more bucks......instead of getting into camp right away, learning, and getting ready to play ?????
Let's face it, after Cleveland traded away Frye, had Quinn been in camp since Day 1, he would've been the starter instead of Anderson !! Most everyone would acknowledge that.
Andre Ware, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, JaMarcus Russell (who still may turn out OK....but he's really behind now !), and so many other QB's who held out never turned their careers around.
Now, I wonder - did their respective agents do the right thing for their client ? Or...just their wives ????
(sorry....to me agents are a necessary evil..........especially Boros !)
