Who had the best draft? The most accurate way to grade every team is to say: Incomplete. But that's no fun.
We obviously won't be able to judge for several years, but in terms of addressing needs and getting players of value, here's some of my thoughts on the NFC East, but I'm more interested in yours.
(Just including top 5 picks, but grade based on total draft)
Dallas Cowboys
1 (22) - Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
1 (25) - Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
2 (61) - Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M
4 (122) - Tashard Choice, RB, Georgia Tech
5 (143) - Orlando Scandrick, CB, Boise State
One of the most debated picks of the draft is Jerry Jones decision to go with his Razorback over Rashard Mendenhall. When the Steelers new RB wins offensive rookie of the year, I suspect criticism won't subside. Following that up with Jenkins was a great move. Tashard Choice is a solid hedge of his gamble in Jones, and I believe Scandrick has as much potential as any other 5th round pick. B+
New York Giants
1 (31) - Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (FL)
2 (63) - Terrell Thomas, CB, USC
3 (95) - Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
4 (123) - Bryan Kehl, LB, BYU
5 (165) - Jonathan Goff, LB, Vanderbilt
Thumbs up on addressing the defensive backfield with the first two picks and getting Manningham in the third was a steal, even with all the questions. Drafting Andre' Woodson in the 6th round was more than worth the investment in his slow delivery. That's correctable with time. Not overwhelming, but solid. B+
Philadelphia Eagles
2 (47) - Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame
2 (49) - DeSean Jackson, WR, California
3 (80) - Bryan Smith, DE, McNeese State
4 (109) - Michael McGlynn, OG, Pittsburgh
4 (117) - Quintin Demps, S, UTEP
Trading out of the first round for this? Boooooo. I'm sure Laws will be solid, but I don't think another undersized fast wide receiver is going to get the Eagles over the hump. The only way this draft gets a solid evaluation in the future is if Jackson turns into a Devin Hester. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about Smith from McNeese State. C-
Washington Redskins
2 (34) - Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
2 (48) - Fred Davis, TE, USC
2 (51) - Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
3 (96) - Chad Rinehart, OG, Northern Iowa
4 (124) - Justin Tryon, CB, Arizona State
Trading out of the first round and still getting their #1 wideout was impressive. Thomas will produce alongside Moss and Randle El from Day 1. Coupling him with the best tight end in the draft and another big wide receiver completely addresses offensive needs and gives Jason Campbell the appropriate tools. A-
