NFL FanIQ & A: Talking San Diego Chargers with The Fifester
READ MORE:
Welcome to the latest edition of NFL FanIQ & A, interviewing fans about their favorite teams.  Training camp will be starting soon, so we are making you the experts now.  Today we have The Fifester talking about his San Diego Chargers ...

Nate: The San Diego Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer and hired Norv Turner as their head coach. What kind of impact will that have this coming season for San Diego?

Ian: It will have a major impact on San Diego for sure. Marty has been there for so many years it will be a lot different. Norv Turner is a good coach, but not as good as Marty. If I was Norv Turner I would keep the play-book it got you so far last year.

What are some of the key losses, aside from coaching staff, that San Diego had this off-season?

There wasn't any major losses. We pretty much have every player back from last years roster. They did have one major loss in long time Linebacker Donnie Edwards. Other than that, the Chargers are healthy, so I would probably expect them to get to the Super Bowl this year.

Who is going to be the biggest off season pick up for San Diego Chargers, as far as free agents go?

The Chargers picked up nobody in Free Agency. The only additions they have came from the draft.

Okay, so who did the Chargers pick up in the draft, that will have the most immediate impact on the team?

There 1st round pick Eric Weddle Safety out of the University of Utah. He will maybe get some starts because the Chargers don't have decent Safety's. If you look at his college stats there crazy good and is a huge pick up for the San Diego Chargers Organization.

What will be the Chargers biggest weakness be heading into this coming season?

It's a toss up between the Wide Receiver and Safety position. At Wide Receiver they have Eric Parker, Floyd Malcom, Kassim Osgood, Greg Camarilo, Vincent Jackson, and Craig Davis. They aren't great Wide Receivers, but they will get the job done. At Safety, they have Marlon McCree, Bhawoh Jue, their draft pick Eric Weddle and Clinton Hart. That is definitely there worst position. If non position, It would be coaching. Marty Schottenheimer is big shoes to fill in for Norv Turner; he won't be as good, but will be alright.

Who is going to be the biggest threat to the Chargers in their Division? Why?

I have to say the Denver Broncos because they have a spectacular defense probably Top 3 in league and a great offense. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost some key guys and will be some what competition. The last team is the Oakland Raiders. Oakland will be a piece of cake to take care of, just like every other year for the Chargers. Definitely Denver though.

Might want to stay out of Raider Nation for awhile Ian. Can the Chargers get to the Super Bowl this season, if so, what will it take?

For sure they can get to the Super Bowl. Last year, they screwed up against New England and should have been in the Super Bowl. This year they are the best team in the league no doubt. There key guy is my favorite Ladanian Tomlinson if he doesn't get hurt Chargers will be in the Super Bowl possibly Champions.

Well that is all the questions I have today. Thank you for the interview Ian. I'll go ahead and leave you with the last word.

Chargers are in the Super Bowl against the New Orleans Saints. They win 38-27. SB MVP LT. Also Ladainian will break his TD Record from last year and will also rush for more yards than he did last year. So all you Fantasy Football players PICK HIM!!!   Thank You FANIQ!

Best team no doubt?  I don't think so, and I have a hard time believing any running back will top what LT did last year this season.  Other than that, nice interview.

They could be the best team and probably are! LT could possibly top his own record.

Philip Rivers must gain confidence in himself and the WR's he throws to. Until that happens, the Chargers will not make it to a Super Bowl. If that happens and one of those WR step up, Chargers could be SB Champs

It's cute that you think that the Chargers will go to the championship, you're very naive. What about the Patriots? We beat you guys last year with our team being drastically worse. How can you say that you believe you will be in the Super Bowl with an unproven QB a shotty receiving corps and a mediocre defense?

You beat us last year because of Marlon McCree well I think it was him he intercepted it and wanted to go further and oops FUMBLE!!!!! We truely won that game and you know it!

I don't think so Matt. You guys are a little worse than you were last year, and we're a lot better than we were last year, when we beat you. Brady is going to have a field day with your secondary.

Kinda like Barry Sanders huh?  How successful was Detroit with a one dimensional offense?

No way LT has a good OL Barry had nothing! Barry would dismantle every defense if he had a good OL. To awnser your question nobody is as good as Barry.

How does that make them any less on dimensional?

Simply not true. Sanders did have a pretty good line to run behind. T Lomas Brown was a 6 time pro bowl selection. C Kevin Glover was a 3 time pro bowl selection. I would say he had more than nothing on that line. Let's not forget the Lions also had 4 time pro bowl selection Herman Moore at WR, and that certainly helped distract defenses from focusing exclusively on Sanders. Just thought I'd set the record straight.

True it wasn't bad but he did most of the work. LT is a fantastic runningback say if he had The Lions line back then he wouldn't get anywhere!

I see you're 16 years old. This means that if you ever even saw Barry play, you were too young to remember much of it. Sanders ran behind a huge OL, Lomas Brown was a massive T. The Lions had a very explosive offense, Barry had plenty of help. It was the defense of the Lions that was the achilles heel. I'm not about to slight Sanders, he was one of the most exciting RBs in the history of the game, but to say he did it by himself without any help is just false.

Nobody is as good as Barry? What about Walter Payton and Jim Brown?

Barry played 10 years Walter and Jim Brown played around 18 Barry has more than half of the yards they picked up Barry would have every record shattered if he played 18.

Where did you get 18? Jim Brown retired in the prime of his career and played in the days when the regular season was only 12 games and then expanded to 14 games, so it is safe to say that Brown would have set records that nobody would have equalled had he not retired at the age of 29. He played 118 games and rushed for 12, 312 yards and 106 TDs in only 9 NFL seasons. Sanders played 153 games in 10 seasons and rushed for 15,269 yards and 99 TDs. Brown averaged 104.3 yards per game in his career, Sanders averaged 99.8 yards per game. Brown averaged 5.2 yards per carry in his career, Sanders averaged 5.0 yards per carry in his career. The facts aren't helping your argument here.

Ok Still the Lions had an alright what about the Browns? Barry did most of his work by himself like I said. Jim Brown probably had a good OL.  I have a lot of respect for Jim Brown I'm not saying he is bad, but he is easily in the top 3 all time.

Yes, Jim Brown did have a pretty good line in front of him. No better than what Barry Sanders had in front of him though. They were completely different runners though, Brown was possibly the most powerful power back in league history while Sanders was a duck and dodge back, both very effective at what they did.

Jim Brown was one of the best pure athletes ever. He played 4 varsity sports at Syracuse. He did not need an amazing OL for him to be great. You should also get your facts right. Jim Brown played 118 games, Barry played 153. Walter played 13 years, not 18. Before you write off Brown and Payton, get your facts straight. Both of them were way better than Barry Sanders in his prime.

No, I don't mind explaining that. You lost one of the best coaches in the league, and ended up replacing him with a mediocre offense crazed coach who has never had great success as a head coach. You also lost two veterans in Keenan McCardell and Donnie Edwards.

We only need one guy on Offense his name is Ladainian Tomlinson. One guy on D his name His Shawne Merriman. See were set.

Football is a team sport, and the Patriots have the better team. You need more than two great players to win a super bowl, you also need veterans and leaders, which the Chargers don't have many of. Two players cannot bring a team to the superbowl, but 52 players can, which is why the Patriots will rep the AFC in the superbowl.

You have a point there, the Patriots have a shot and could win it all and Congrats on your 1000 post.

......

We lost 2 veterans, one of which had no TDs last year, and one of which we are replacing with a much faster, stronger, and younger stud LB.

Norv Turner has never had the talent he has had now. Watch out for the Chargers.

I think you guys are forgetting about the team that actually won the Super Bowl. The Colts are still the favorite.
