The injury bug simply won't let up and now fantasy football owners have to work around the annoying bye weeks. However, there is good news when it comes to a couple running backs. LaDainian Tomlinson scored two touchdowns last night and while he's far from 100 percent, he expects to practice all week and be in better condition next Sunday. The same positive outlook is in store for Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson. No Sunday morning freakouts for those fateful owners of both (someone like me).
There still are plenty of significant fantasy injuries worth discussing today:
Willie Parker suffered a sprained knee against the Eagles and is already listed as inactive for Monday night's game against the Ravens. This means it's time for Rashard Mendenhall to prove his worth. Thus far the rookie from Illinois has received 10 carries and gained just 28 yards. Now would be a good time to show those first round talents.
Brian Westbrook insists he'll "work his butt off," but I don't know if that will be enough to contribute on Sunday night. He'll be listed as day-to-day all week and likely become the dreaded game-time decision. Problem is the Eagles play at 8:15, so this presents owners with some tough decisions in the morning. I'd plan to go without Westbrook and depending on how your waiver wire works, you could still pick up guys like Steve Slaton and Correll Buckhalter.
Marc Bulger is suffering from a coach on the hot seat. When someone is on the cusp of being fired like Scott Linehan, a significant starting lineup move is in store and that usually means the quarterback. 38-year-old, concussed Trent Green will assume the role of punching bag behind the Rams offensive line. Don't freak out if you own Bulger, it's only a matter of time before he resumes his starting role. Especially when Linehan is fired in the next few weeks.
Jon Kitna sprained his ankle against the 49ers and is questionable this Sunday for various reasons. Healthy or not, Kitna hasn't been the leader the Lions need. Naturally, he insists he isn't the problem. That may be partially accurate, he's still on the lengthy list and a change at QB could be good for the Lions. Dan Orlovsky relieved Kitna and attempted just one pass which resulted the way many of Kitna's had before him: interception. So this may be the week Detroit turns to Drew Stanton, who's mobility could be useful behind the Lions offensive line.
Jeremy Shockey is out several weeks with a sports hernia and David Patten as a sore groin. If you haven't picked up Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem yet, what are you waiting for?
We'll have another update on Sunday morning, so in the meantime feel free to post any local injury news here throughout the week.
