As the NFL season has already reached its halfway point (already?), let's take a look at what some teams have done so far in comparison to what we thought they would do. Also, we'll take a look at some players who've been better than advertised, and some who've sucked majorly for their teams. In this post, we look at the AFC West.
San Diego Chargers. Record: 4-4. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 15-1
The Good: They have the most takeaways of any AFC team, and a great turnover difference of +8 because of this.
The Bad: Defensively, they aren't in the top 20 in passing yards or rushing yards allowed per game, plus the offense has greatly underachieved.
The Future?: They have a pretty brutal schedule to finish. Other than the Raiders, they have 7 games that aren't easy wins at all. Colts, Jaguars, Broncos, Titans, Lions, Chiefs and Raiders aren't an easy path. I honestly don't see them winning more than 5 max of those 8, and I'll say they win 4 and finish the season at 8-8.
Kansas City Chiefs. Record: 4-4. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 7-9
The Good: Defense has played solid. Not fantastic, but good enough to win games.
The Bad: The entire offense, minus Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe.
The Future?: The Jets and Raiders should be two wins, but the rest isn't easy. The Broncos twice, that will be hard to do more than split, even though Denver has struggled. Colts, Chargers and Titans is tough, and if the Lions are legit, that won't be easy either. I don't think I think they only win half of their remaining games, and like the Chargers, finish 8-8.
Denver Broncos. Record: 3-5. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 11-5
The Good: Despite sucking miserably, they're still 3-5.
The Bad: They've been outscored by 101 points. That's worse than the DOLPHINS, and the Rams are the only team that's worse. The run D is pathetic, and the offense can't score. Plus, a terrible turnover difference of -8.
The Future?: They have an easier schedule than KC and SD, with the Bears, Vikings, Texans, and Raiders all seem possible to win. But the way this team has looked, I can't see them winning more than 3 of the remaining 8. 6-10 finish for the Broncos.
Oakland Raiders. Record: 2-6. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 2-14
The Good: Offensively, they've done a good job running the ball. Fargas has been great when he's gotten carries.
The Bad: Turnover difference of -8, and a pretty bad run defense. Plus an offense that still haven't been able to score much.
The Future?: Their last 4 games are brutal. Packers, Colts, Jaguars and Chargers? That's just not fair. The other 4 are Bears, Vikings, Broncos, and Chiefs. I think only can win 2, and finish 4-12.
How do you think what was billed as the "toughest division in football" at seasons' start will end? Will any team emerge as a legit contender?
