As the NFL season has already reached its halfway point (already?), let's take a look at what some teams have done so far in comparison to what we thought they would do. Also, we'll take a look at some players who've been better than advertised, and some who've sucked majorly for their teams.
In this post we look at the NFC East.
Dallas Cowboys. Record: 7-1. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 12-4.
The Good: They by far have the best offense in the NFC. They've been able to score a ton both through the air and on the ground.
The Bad: Their defense has been average at best. Not bad, but not great.
The Future?: The Jets are a freebie, but the other games aren't easy. 6 of their 8 opponents are .500 or better, with Philly and the Jets as the exception. Washington is beatable, and they play them twice. The Lions are beatable, and the Panthers are beatable. Obviously, their toughest tests are at the Giants, and the Packers. I believe they'll win 6 of the 8, and finish with a 13-3 record.
New York Giants. Record: 6-2. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 9-7.
The Good: Offense has been solid, tied with the 2nd most points with the Lions. Defense has also been solid, and they lead the league in sacks.
The Bad: They haven't done a huge amount yardage wise with the passing game, and they've only got a turnover difference of +1.
The Future?: Not an easy stretch of games, especially for a team that historically plays very weak in the 2nd half. 3 division games still, as well as the Lions, Bears, Bills, Vikings, and Patriots. I think they can win as many as 6 and as few as 3. I'll say they win 5 games, and finish the year at 11-5.
Washington Redskins. Record: 5-3. FanIQ's Preseason pick: 6-10.
The Good: They've have a solid defense.
The Bad: Their offense is pretty terrible. They've had trouble scoring points, and haven't been efficient offensively.
The Future?: They still have Dallas twice, which although it potentially helps them, it's not a very easy win. Giants, Bucs, Eagles, Bears, Vikings, Bills are the rest of their games. That said, I think they only go .500 in this stretch, and finish the year 9-7.
Philadelphia Eagles. Record: 3-5. FanIQ's Preseason Pick: 12-4.
The Good: They've actually allowed the fewest points of any team in that division.
The Bad: They haven't been able to score points to save their life, except against the Lions. And, that offense has allowed an awful 28 sacks.
The Future?: Other than Miami, they still have a pretty tough path. I don't think they'll fix their problems enough. Redskins, Giants, Cowboys, Pats, Saints, Bills, and Seahawks is a pretty tough stretch. I think they win 3 at most, and finish the year 6-10.
What do you believe will happen in the NFC East?
