NFL Mock Draft: Pre-Scouting Combine Top 10 Picks
The circus that has become the NFL Scouting Combine begins today, although the real stuff won't start until Saturday with workouts.

Because there's never a bad time to delve into Mock Draft goodness, here's my 'suggestions' for the Top 10 Picks.

1. Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia I'm a huge fan of Matt Ryan at the next level and believe he's more than worthy of this pick, but the Fish have bigger issues to address. Jason Taylor's decision to join Dancing with the Stars signals the end of him taking football seriously, and there's no one better in the draft at getting to the opposing QB than Long. Plus, he can spell an "L" with his arms. That's not a given for some athletes at the next level. Furthermore, there's absolutely no chance of this pick being a bust, so if they do indeed keep the pick, it's Long or Glenn Dorsey. Hard to not love this upcoming draft as you could make a case for 5-6 guys being the #1 overall.

2. St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long, Michigan Orlando Pace's injury and general poor play from the rest of the Rams offensive line makes this the necessary pick. Long should have a similar impact as Joe Thomas.

3. Atlanta Falcons* - QB Matt Ryan, Boston College
Should the Eagles QB fall this far, I'd expect the Falcons to field an onslaught of phone calls. But since we can't play the trade game with mock drafts, this would make an ideal selection. Unless, that is, they still believe Chris Redman or Joey Harrington is the future. Ryan will be a Pro-Bowl caliber QB down the road.

4. Oakland Raiders* - DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU Drafting Darren McFadden here is obviously a decent pick, but I suspect his stock will drop a little over the next month. Dorsey is more of a sure thing and plus he won't command as much money which is a legit concern after JaMarcus Russell broke the bank last fall.

5. Kansas City Chiefs* - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas Maybe it's because we haven't watched him turn an open hole into an 80-yard easy touchdown run for a few months, but I'm losing confidence that he's the best NFL running back in this draft. Problem here would be pissing off Larry Johnson after just giving him a big contract, but it's obvious LJ can no longer handle the full load.

6. New York Jets - DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State With Jake Long being a top prospect, you need not look any further than their duels to see Gholston is more than worthy of this pick. I'd be stunned if Mangini went with anything other than a defensive lineman after the New York Giants showed everyone the formula to take down division rival New England.

7. New England Patriots - CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy  Assuming Zach Thomas accepts his offer, I'd be surprised if Belichick took another LB as I'd suggested in the previous mock. The Pats have excelled at drafting some previously unknowns, so the quickly rising McKelvin seems the likely choice. I know New England doesn't film anything, but something tells me they have some quality video of this stud who will follow in the steps of DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora coming from Troy.

8. Baltimore Ravens - DT Sedrick Ellis, USC He's without question the best player on the board right now. New coach John Harbaugh would love to go defense with his first pick, although some offensive line help is greatly desired.

9. Cincinnati Bengals - LB Keith Rivers, USC Defense, defense, defense, defense. It really doesn't matter who the Bungels take so long as he can play D. Linebacker would be the most pressing need and Trojan linebackers haven't disappointed in the pros. Might as well go to the well once more.

10. New Orleans Saints - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois Thought I'd throw you for a loop here. Reggie Bush is not the between the tackles guy, so why not get your stud NFL running back right here. Ryan Clady, OT from Boise State would also make a logical, if not better choice.
*Picks 3-4-5 are still to be decided by a coin toss

Give me your Top 10 below. Only the second of many more mock drafts to come
