If the season ended today, the Colts and Cowboys would miss the playoffs, and the Carolina Panthers would be looking at a first round bye. Fortunately for a lot of teams, the season doesn't end for another two months. But here are your NFL Power Rankings heading into Week 10:
The Top 10:
Still undefeated at 8-0, the Titans are undoubtedly playing the best football in the league right now. Their defense is simply amazing, giving up less than 13 points per game, and their rushing attack is awesome as well.
Although they looked bad in their one loss against the Browns, the defending Super Bowl champs are doing even better than last year. Even without Plaxico Burress playing like he can, their offense has been potent.
Although widely overlooked, the Panthers are having an excellent season. John Fox is the NFC's coach of the year, especially with the way he flawlessly handled the Steve Smith knockout on Ken Lucas.
It hasn't been pretty, but key injuries haven't stopped the Steelers from going 6-2 in the first half of the season. Interestingly enough, Byron Leftwich looked better than Ben Roethlisberger at QB on Monday night.
This is where it gets tough. The 'Skins got embarrassed by the Steelers on Monday night, but when they're on, they're one of the best teams in the league. Jim Zorn will shake it off and right the ship after their much-needed bye week.
Yes, the Cardinals. Kurt Warner may be having another MVP season, and they can score with anyone in the league. They already enjoy a 3 game lead in their division, and it looks like their decade-long playoff drought will come to an end.
When healthy, the Eagles might be the best team in the league. Problem is, "when healthy" is something that only happens once every few years, it seems. Andy Reid is great at getting the most out of the talent he has.
This could change drastically now that the Sex Cannon has taken over at QB. But their defense, as well as rookie Matt Forte are very good, and can keep them in any game. The NFC North is theirs for the taking, at this point.
Their defense is still stout, and Jeff Garcia is showing the league that it doesn't take a huge arm to win games. They have a bye week coming up, which will be great for them, after a mediocre showing against the Chiefs.
Despite being winless in their division, the Falcons only trail the division leading Panthers by a game. They still need some work, but one thing is for sure. Matt Ryan is a winner. As long as they are in it at the end, he will pull it out.The Bottom 5:
It's hard to believe this is the same team that has made the playoffs 5 straight years, and won their division in the last 4. They look awful, especially on defense, where they are giving up over 26 ppg. The wheels have come off in Seattle.
Their record is miserable at 1-7, but they have showed some promise recently, despite having arguably the worst QB depth chart in the history of football. They had some near-wins, and will win at least 2-3 more before the season is over.
It's disappointing they won 2 games early, because right now, this looks like a team that could have gone 0-16. They have an uncanny dedication to losing, the likes of which I haven't seen in a while, except in Detroit. Time for Al Davis to go.
The Bengals finally picked up their first win, beating the Jags 21-19. The only thing that does is hurt their chances of getting the #1 draft pick, and maybe preserve Marv Lewis' job for another few weeks. He needs to be replaced, as well.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. 0-8, and now they will have Daunte Culpepper start next week, immediately after coming out of retirement. It's a shame that Matt Millen is gone, because Michael Crabtree would be a great #1 draft pick.
