1. Colts, 14-1, Last week: 1I don't agree with their decision to throw the game against the Jets, and I think it will have long-term repercussions. I already thought they'd lose in the playoffs... now I KNOW they will.
2. Chargers, 12-3, Last week: 3They're the hottest team in the league right now, and they almost got the top spot. Say what you want about the Colts, but this Chargers team is playing better than anyone right now, and I think they're the team to beat.
3. Saints, 13-2, Last week: 2I have no idea what has happened in the past few weeks, but they desperately need to catch a win next week. Heading into the playoffs on a 3-game losing streak is a recipe for disaster.
4. Eagles, 11-4, Last week: 5They have a huge game this week against the Cowboys, which will be for the NFC East, and could decide who gets the #2 seed and a first round bye. Unfortunately for the Eagles, it's in Dallas. Fortunately, it's still December.
5. Cowboys, 10-5, Last week: 7They went 2-2 in December, but this first one in January against the Eagles will go a long way in determining how successful their month really is.
6. Vikings, 11-4, Last week: 4Favre wasn't bad, but it's hard to ignore the recent trend of his teams falling apart late in the season. Is there any doubt at this point that Favre would be better off roaming a golf course at this point?

7. Bengals, 10-5, Last week: 6If they can keep Cedric Benson going in the playoffs, I love their chances to make some serious noise. As long as he's healthy and productive, the Bengals will do well.
8. Cardinals, 10-5, Last week: 8They've broken the Super Bowl loser's curse, and they're heading back to the playoffs... and the Steelers, who beat them in the Super Bowl, are still on the bubble. Funny how these things work.
9. Patriots, 10-5, Last week: 9Their win over the Jaguars really didn't prove anything. The Patriots can beat anyone at home, where they went 8-0. The problem is... can they take their act on the road and get a win at San Diego or Indy? Probably not.
10. Packers, 10-5, Last week: 10The Packers could actually play the Vikings in the first round of the playoffs this year, depending on how things pan out. How awesome would that be? I think they could win Round 3 of that one.
11. Jets, 8-7, Last week: 19If Mark Sanchez can make some progress next year, Rex Ryan can have this team in a good spot. Either way, a win this week, and they're in the playoffs. That's progress.
12. Ravens, 8-7, Last week: 12If they pick up a win next week against the Raiders, they're in the playoffs. If not, they have no one to blame but themselves, at this point.
13. Broncos, 8-7, Last week: 11They need to win, and then have either the Jets or Ravens lose. If that happens, they're in the playoffs... unless the Steelers are the only team tied with them. The Broncos hold the 3-way tiebreaker, but no the head to head tiebreaker with the Steelers.

14. Steelers, 8-7, Last week: 17They need a win against the Dolphins, and a loss by at least 2 of the following teams: Texans, Jets and Ravens. If that happens, they're in the playoffs.
15. Atlanta, 8-7, Last week: 18If they stay healthy next year, they'll make the playoffs. Unfortunately, Matt Ryan and Michael Turner missing time was just too much for them to handle.
16. Texans, 8-7, Last week: 20A win next week against the Patriots will go a long way for this team. And with the way the Patriots play on the road, it's definitely not out of the question at all.
17. Jaguars, 7-8, Last week: 15To make the playoffs, they need to win, and they need 4 of the following 5 teams to lose: Steelers, Ravens, Broncos, Texans and Jets. Definitely a long shot.
18. Dolphins, 7-8, Last week: 16If they can beat the Steelers, they can still make the playoffs... as long as the Jets, Ravens, Texans and Jaguars lose. I wouldn't hold my breath.
19. Giants, 8-7, Last week: 13Their collapse this year has been remarkable. Right now, it looks like Eli's big new contract wasn't quite worth it. He needs to be consistent... and he hasn't been.
20. Titans, 7-8, Last week: 14They might actually be a little better than some of the other 7-8 teams in the AFC... but they can't make the playoffs. So it really doesn't matter.

21. 49ers, 7-8, Last week: 21This team will break through... next year. Mike Singletary is a solid coach, and they have a solid amount of talent. If Alex Smith develops more, they'll be fine.
22. Panthers, 7-8, Last week: 22John Fox will keep his job next year, but I don't think we'll be able to say the same for Jake Delhomme. It's probably for the best, anyway. Matt Moore has been a LOT better.
23. Bears, 6-9, Last week: 23They beat the Vikings, but at this point, it doesn't even matter. This season is a complete failure. If only they had a bunch of draft picks they could use to rebuild the team. If only...
24. Browns, 4-11, Last week: 28They're on a 3-game winning streak right now. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Wins are always good, but it's killing their draft position, and saving Eric Mangini's job. Yeah, that's a bad thing.
25. Raiders, 5-10, Last week: 26They just lost to the Browns? Really? And Charlie Frye looked a whole lot like JaMarcus Russell. They need bruce Gradkowski back. Wait, did I just say that?
26. Seahawks, 5-10, Last week: 24The Seahawks got dismantled by the Packers, but Justin Forsett looks like he might be a pretty good player in the long run.
27. Bills, 5-10, Last week: 25No one wants to coach there, they have very little talent, and... well, that's it, really. This team is a disaster, and they might even get worse from here.

28. Redskins, 4-11, Last week: 27Once they complete their inevitable Shanahan hiring, it will be interesting to see what they do. As long as Dan Snyder keeps his hands out of the cookie jar, they'll improve quickly.
29. Chiefs, 3-11, Last week: 29Dwayne Bowe returned this week, and it's clear that they missed him. Their almost-win against the Bengals showed good signs of things to come.
30. Buccaneers, 3-12, Last week: 31Raheem Morris got thrown in a pretty tough position, and I'm not entirely sure that he even wanted to be a head coach. But he has done alright, really. They almost won too many games, and screwed over their draft position.
31. Lions, 2-13, Last week: 30The Lions have a good base, and much like a lot of bad teams, they just need to keep building from the trenches, and who knows? They might even win 4-5 games next year.
32. Rams, 1-14, Last week: 32The Rams will be much better off next year with Ndamukong Suh... and even better if they can shore up their offensive line and find a legitimate QB.
Feel free to let me know where you think I went wrong, or how much of a genius you think I am, in the comments section below.

so lets get ready. I completely agree it is hard to beat a team 3 times in a year but that don't mean it won't happen and if the eagles are coming to Dallas in the playoffs I know they CAN beat them but whether they do or not.... that's why the play the games. lol
haha that's what I always say about that 5 rings comeback I always have to hear. As a Dallas fan I respect you though for not being one of the many idiot fans the cowboys have. the Eagles have idiot fans as well just not as many with the America's team crap. :)
1/5/10 | pedlpusher | 30 respect
You need to worry more about whether the 'true' Saints show up vs Romo...just sayin.
I must agree with you on that point. The Saints DO need to bring their game for the next three games. We already have lost Charles Grant for the post-season. All I can say is let the games begin.
1/4/10 | pedlpusher | 30 respect
Now I know you are truly apologetic for the snub. The Cowboys shut the Eagles out. I hope for your playoff future, when you go to Dallas next week that a different team shows up. I do not think that the Eagles are as bad as they looked, nor do I believe that Dallas (mainly Romo) is as good as they looked. True enough they beat the Saints in week 15, but I believe the true Romo will start showing up again in the playoffs. Good Luck to All.
1/4/10 | pedlpusher | 30 respect
Unfortunately for the Raiders, their QB wants to be in the headlines just like he was in college. He must come to the understanding that this is a team sport and that he is not Micheal Vick. If he stays put in the pocket, and goes through his rotation, he could be a better QB, but until then it will be only hit and miss victories.
1/4/10 | pedlpusher | 30 respect
Maybe you're right, but I'd really like to hear what exactly you have to back up a ridiculous statement like yours.
As with any team in the NFL, once the injuries set in, you have to have a lull in playing. By the second week of the playoffs, we should have all of our key players back and in full form. I am only basing this on the way they played for the majority of the season before the key players got injured.

Bengals need more than just a good post season from Benson. They need the offensive line to protect Palmer in the passing game. Palmer is effective when he has time to throw. The line has been great at run blocking all year but they are up and down on pass protection.
As far as the Chargers being the best team, well I hope so because the Bengals played them pretty good two weeks ago. I wouldn't be too scared of a rematch.

You pretty much summed it up with your previous comment. The Patriots are a mediocre team on the road, and there's no reason whatsoever to believe that they could win two true road games against quality opponents... and that's what it would take to get to the Super Bowl. The Patriots chances of winning the Super Bowl are slim to none... closer to none, unfortunately. Like you said... they're just not that good right now.

The Chargers are playing better than anybody in the league right now, and the Patriots are NOT the same powerhouse they've been. They got older, their running game still isn't there, and Brady still isn't the same old QB we've grown accustomed to. They have a great chance to get knocked out in the first round.

lol so the Cowboys won the div crown in 2007 Eagles in 2006 but lets look at the big picture since your talking about the past.........
Cowboys have 30 playoff appearances counting this year, 19 going on 20 Division crowns after they beat the Eagles on Sunday, 8 superbowl appearances and 5 rings.........
Eagles have 23 playoff appearances counting this year and only a measly 7 division crons 3 Superbowl appearances and 0 rings......
oh and lets not forget that Your Mighty Eagles are the only team in that division that hasn't won a superbowl, every other team has won more than one!!!....
I think the numbers speak for themselves.....lmfao

Thank you man,,,I'm so glad someone knew what I was talking about. When Beans turn to bullets(when it really mattered)the birds have owned the giants and boys to quite be honest and as a matter of fact the whole division. How many division banners has the boys won in recent history? As I said my heart pumps midnight green, silver, white and black, so I may be biased to say it will be a blowout, but I agree it will be a good game.

Yup......I think he's referring to recent history as a whole. Like last year for example when Philly beat Dallas 44-6 in the last week to keep Dallas out of the playoffs. I'm an Eagles fan but I don't expect that type of game at all now though. I think it will be a good game and I won't be surprised who wins. What would surprise me is if Dallas won and then Philly had to come back to Dallas next week and lost again. I don't see that happening though. Not losing to Dallas 3 times. Don't forget what happened 2 years ago to Dallas vs NY. Cowboys won both regular season games then oopsies in the playoffs.
12/30/09 | Onegoodredhead2 | 9961 respect
So why is everyone saying the Cowboys are playing great. Ok ya they beat the Saints but then they beat the lowly Redskins. They went 2-2 in December. Doesnt seem that great to me.
the lowly redskins have talent,,they are an upper management mess and have been for a couple years and that affects the players
12/30/09 | danny_n94 | 114 respect
For the record I cant stand the Chargers, but SD is going to beat the Colts (again) in the playoffs if the Colts can win their first playoff game. Plus the Colts under Manning are 0-3 in the playoffs following a 1st round bye. Colt fan makes me laugh by not thinking history always repeats itself when regarding Manning and his epic failure in the playoffs

I'm so sorry for the snub New Orleans and Minnesota, but at this point in the season, I'm starting to lose respect for the game you are bringing to the table. Saints have lost twice in three weeks and the Vikings are ending up in all the wrong conversations, and losing....You know..at this point in the season you want to gain steam, speed and power going into the playoffs. I'm sorry to say I think #1 seed and #2 seed wont be there in the end. That is of course, Minnesota loses again and Philly beats Dallas to take the #2 seed.

As a true believer in preparation, I coach and know you prepare week to week and its too early to talk Super Bowl. This game in Dallas will be a one sided BARN-BURNER. Eagles are flying and like good teams do, they make plays when they have to and find ways to win. It looks as though the Jamal Jackson injury will be a pimple on Mcnabb's face(non factor). We look to take the crown again, then possibly send them packing 2 weeks after that. I think most assessments are correct. You don't want to be playing Philly and San Diego right now.....And guess what? San Diego has owned Indy, as Philly has owned Dallas...LOL

Make that 4 weeks. Washington gave them the game by pulling their starters... er...wrong formerly undefeated team...Washington gave them the game by missing a 23yard field goal.
Still if the team that beat the Patriots shows up, they could be in the SB. But right now, my money is on SD vs Phil.

Dwayne Bowe actually returned last week against the Browns, and two losses are now considered "almost-wins". Cool.
By the way, Bowe also got majority of the blame for this weeks loss and Peter King called him out on extreme "alligator arms", so I really think it had nothing to do with Bowe coming back to make these almost-wins. Good try though.

I figure anytime your defense holds their opponent to a shut out, it's a good thing - on the road too? A very good thing, especially not quite sure of how your playoff schedule will run. Like you said, they've beaten the beat, and they've beaten the worst - should make for a very interesting (read: schizophrenic) post season.
An addendum to no. 7, Pat - Benson needs to stay healthy, but the other guy in their backfield needs to remain calm and keep his big mouth shut...
Also, no. 10, I'd have liked to see GB a couple spots higher, but they and the Cards will sort that all out this week!

People have been saying "next year" about SF for a few years now... after they went 7-9 a few years back it was "look out world, here comes SF".... I'll believe it when I see it. I still think they need a major overhaul on the o-line and they need some pretty big adjustments in the defensive secondary... to say nothing of what they need at QB. I don't think Alex Smith is a championship level QB.

Brady looked great last week, and this is becoming eerily similar to that 2006 season...New England beat the Jets, then came in to S.D against an over-confident Chargers team...Teams who are playing well at the end of the season always scare me...
Also, If the Bolts can win 3 playoff games, can we finally move up to #1 on your Power Rankings??? : )

Fly Eagles fly! Whoever wins this weekend's matchup between the Eagles and Cowboys will win the NFC in my opinion. As you can see I am rooting for the Birds. The NFC's top two teams for the majority of the season have been falling apart at most important time. The Vikings.........you've seen what's going on and the Saints may have only lost their last two but they just barely squeeked out wins versus the Falcons and the Redskins in the previous 2 weeks. They wouldn't have beaten the Redksins had their kicker been able to make a field goal from the 12 with less than 2 minutes left. Birds going for 7 in row!
