NFL Power Rankings Week 6: New York Giants Top NFC East, NFL
It Remains The NFC East, And Then The Rest
READ MORE:
This NFL season has been a mess, a wonderfully unpredictable mess at that, but week five didn't offer up too many drastic shifts to our power rankings.

The state of the NFC East remains strong, very, very strong. Jim Zorn and the Washington Redskins scored their second straight road divisional win and the New York Giants ship remains steady as she goes, and didn't need Plaxico Burress to exploit the Seattle Seahawks defense. Dallas had some scary moments against a Bengals team slowly finding their way and Philadelphia is simply the victim of not being as good as the rest, nor as healthy.

The Week 6 Power Rankings are the NFC East, and then the rest...

1. New York Giants
Defending Super Bowl Champs and have won seven straight including the 2007 playoffs. Despite what looks like some holes on paper, the Giants have yet to show any on the field. Until they do, they'll hold onto my top spot.

2. Washington Redskins
Two straight road wins in the NFC East. That's good enough for the spot, except their lone loss comes to the Giants. Still no interceptions for Jason Campbell.

3. Dallas Cowboys
I don't think any less of the 'Boys, but they've fallen from number one simply based on their division mates performances. Perhaps he can't handle the workload, but wouldn't you double the amount of touches that Felix Jones receives after another sparkling run? He scores every nine times he gets the football. Unreal.

4. Philadelphia Eagles
So what if they're 2-3? Kevin Curtis returns this week most likely, Brian Westbrook remains banged up, but don't count the Eagles out of the playoffs. The sad fact is that one of these four teams will not be a participant in the postseason, despite being one of the Top 10 teams in the NFL.

5. Tennessee Titans
Toughest team in the NFL gets a much needed week off and will likely move to 6-0 before facing Indianapolis at home on Monday Night Football in Week 8. Don't miss that one. A win their and they may break up the NFC East in a big way.

6. Carolina Panthers
Another 200+ outing for the Panthers ground game. Consistent, sound football courtesy of John Fox. This week they visit Tampa Bay with a great opportunity to stake a two-game lead in the NFC South.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers
Hey, look, Ben Roethlisberger threw for 300+ yards. But I thought the Steelers always lost when that happened. Another tough win, not without its mistakes, but at 4-1 with this schedule, they're definitely among the NFL's best. Much needed week off as well.

8. Denver Broncos
I wasn't sure the Broncos could win a field position game against the Bucs. Jay Cutler still got his yards and didn't make a big mistake. The rushing attack by committee gained just enough yards (106) and the defense stepped up and got to Jeff Garcia. Not the most impressive team, but they keep winning.

9. Indianapolis Colts
Indy had no business winning that game in Houston. No business. That said, they still know how to win and will eventually play a complete ballgame. This week would be a good opportunity against a Baltimore defense always pumped to take on Peyton Manning.

10. New England Patriots
Matt Cassel finally found Randy Moss deep. That wasn't so hard, was it? If Cassel continues to take the risk downfield, the Patriots will continue to win.

Worst Team? The Detroit Lions allowed Kyle Orton to throw for 331 yards. That is all.

I officially rescind my comments from last week's rankings. Denver still has some question marks, but at 4-1 after beating the respectable bucs, they belong here, and the Chargers (at 2-3 after losing to Miami) do not.

All four from the NFC East top the list. Regardless of what you think of his rankings, it says something about this division...
