NFL Pre Training Camp Predictions
7/11/08

Today, I wanted to take a short break from the Baseball All Star Reviews and talk a little football. Hard to believe in a couple of weeks, training camps will open! After a most interesting season where we very nearly saw an undefeated team, a cheating scandal and the "retirement" of one of the gutsiest quarterbacks ever. We are on the brink of 2008 and I wanted to riff on what I think will happen in the NFL this year. Remember boys and girls...I did pick San Diego and Detroit to play in the World Series this year. So keep in mind your "expert" here could very well be on glue....
NFC East:

Will the NY Giants repeat? Not on your life, but then again, no one thought they would win the East. Dallas should reign supreme

1. Dallas 12-4. Super Bowl bound

2. NY Giants 10-6. Still hungover
3. Philadelphia 8-8. Is Donovan done?

4. Washington 7-9. Steve Largent comes out of retirement.

NFC North:
If Bret Favre comes back, as I suspect he really will, this could interesting. I think it's a wide open division without him, so bear that in mind.

1. Minnesota 10-6. They have the best running back since Barry Sanders

2. Green Bay 9-7. Keep in mind...this is without Favre. With him, they challenge Dallas in the NFC

3. Chicago 8-8. Why on earth did they keep Rex?? The defense should be back.
4. Detroit 7-9. Any 10 win guarantees??

NFC South:

1. New Orleans 11-5. Redemption is theirs this year.
2. Tampa Bay 10-6. Chuckie must continue to win...or else.

3. Carolina 8-8. John Fox could be gone this year. Will this be Bill Cower's team next year?

4. Atlanta 4-12. A ways to go before a return to respectability.

NFC West:
This division is ugly. Again. There are teams on the rise such as San Francisco and Arizona, but coffee still rules...

1. Seattle 10-6. Holmgren's swan song??

2. Arizona 9-7. Could challenge for the wildcard
3. San Francisco 7-9. Will get Michael Robinson get a chance at QB????

4. St. Louis 6-10. Will they move back to LA????

NFC Championship: Dallas vs. New Orleans; Jessica goes to the Super Bowl; Jim McMahon will be the chaperon.

AFC East:

The weakest division in football. New England has issues, but are fortunate to play here

1. New England 12-4. Don't see them even close to last year.

2. NY Jets 8-8. They are pesky little buggers

3. Buffalo 7-9. How much does Marshawn's troubles affect the team?

4. Miami 3-13. When does Parcells come back??

AFC North:

Pittsburgh is the class here. Cleveland makes life interesting

1. Pittsburgh 12-4. Would make it to the Super if in the NFC.

2. Cleveland 11-5. Playoff bound this year.

3. Cincinnati 7-9. Big trouble in little China.

4. Baltimore 6-10. Rebuilding mode.

AFC South:

Football's best division.

1. Indianapolis 13-3. Will win it all in Tony Dungy's last season

2. Jacksonville 11-5. Too bad they're not out west (or in the NFC)
3. Tennessee 10-6. They are left out this year.

4. Houston 8-8. Best last place team. Could even win 9 games

AFC West:
Not a strong division. Even Norv can't fugg this up, can he??
1. San Diego 10-6. Will LT play hurt??

2. Denver 8-8. Jay Cutler is no Elway (duh) or even no Plummer.

3. Kansas City 8-8. Is LJ burning out??

4. Oakland 5-11. Still a big fat mess

AFC Championship: Indianapolis over Pittsburgh in the "real" Super Bowl.

Super Bowl: Indianapolis over Dallas. Substance over Style. Brothers go back to back to back.

Enjoy! See you in training camp!!
