Real actual games, just not real actual results. What's there to take from last night's round of preseason games?
Lions 13, Giants 10 They beat the Super Bowl Champ, so by proxy, the Lions are now the best team in the NFC, right? OK, maybe not, be the Lions did put together a nice opening drive where Jon Kitna hooked up with Roy Williams who looks even bigger. Lions rookie Gosder Cherilus was terrible and couldn't even stay out with the second team he was beaten so badly. For the Giants, their backup QB situation looks just fine. Somehow, they've overcome the loss of Jared Lorezen. David Carr was sharped and sacked far less than he's accustomed.
Jets 24, Browns 20 Who needs Brett Favre when you have Brett Ratliff. The former Utah signal caller was lighting it up, throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Brady Quinn played well for the Browns, 13-for-17 with a 14th completion to the Jets.
Ravens 16, Patriots 15 Your classic ugly preseason game. Kyle Boller threw a crisp, laser on his first pass, over some coverage. He looked like a real, actual NFL starter. I mentioned how I wanted to see Jerod Mayo, and he saw Ray Rice often. He's sharp. New England's QB's were not, three interceptions led to the Ravens win.
Saints 24, Cards 10 Who knew Mark Brunell was still playing? I didn't. He was 10-for-12 for 119 yards.
Chiefs 24, Bears 20 Let's not talk about it.
