What better way to kick off the NFL season than a heated rivalry game? [NFL Kickoff Open Game Thread]

Blog Photo - NFL Regular Season Kickoff: Cowboys @ Giants Open Game ThreadRemember about this time last year when we were all laughing at Eli Manning's own "elite" status claim? Now we're talking about a 2x Super Bowl champ with a couple of SB MVP awards under his belt. Whether you're one who believes Super Bowl wins define a QB's success or you judge him by the way he manages a game, nobody seems to be laughing now.

Last year, it all came down to the last week of the season when the Cowboys and Giants battled it out for Wild Card spot. We all know how that turned out; Eli & Co. squashed the Boys' post-season dreams and went on to enjoy victory over the Pats in yet another exciting Super Bowl.

It's a whole new season though, and regardless of how well each of these teams do against any others, the Giants/Cowboys rivalry brings out the extreme. Will it be good, or will tonight's NFL kickoff game be a national disappointment? Tonight starting at 8:30pm Eastern Time, we find out. The Cowboys want revenge. The Giants have something to prove.

Each team starts the season not entirely healthy. Nicks looks to be Probable, but Witten will likely be sidelined recovering from a spleen laceration, barring a medical waiver. Even with Witten, the Cowboys lineup won't be complete, having several injuries on defense.

Who's your pick to win - the defending Super Bowl champs or a hungry Dallas team? Whether you're a Cowboys fan, a Giants fan, neither or both (hey, it happens), if you're a football fan you're watching tonight. Q it up here with the rest of us for the kickoff game of the 2012 NFL season!

Would have loved to see the Giants win but hopefully they will do what they do best and that is come on strong at the end when it really counts!! I do not like to see Dallas win though ( almost like U of M, always happy when they get beat!!!!!

Tony Romo came up huge tonight.  If the Cowboys could ever figure out a way to fix that porous offensive line then Dallas could be a major player in the NFC East this season

p.s. America should NOT be forced to listen to Collinsworth on a Wednesday, ffs.

I said the same thing...ugh. Although it does seem like I'm hearing Al more tonight. I wonder if they gave him mic controls so he can turn Collinsworth's off whenever he wants.  That would be awesome.

You are going to need quite the second half, my friend.

9/5/12   |   The_Real_Stoney   |   20481 respect

well that was an awful first half

9/5/12   |   Pat   |   4515 respect

And there's your first blatant example of piss poor officiating. No call on an obvious hold by Orlando Scandrick ends up costing the Giants 4 points.

9/5/12   |   GeorgeMon   |   132 respect

Agree, good D by Dallas though.

9/5/12   |   kobe_lova   |   52116 respect

Really Giants?! Awful football all around so far.

Still no points!!!! And I bet the over (46.5) like a knuckle head... Here's rooting for a 28 pt second Q one time!!!!!

9/5/12   |   softtouch22   |   41 respect

Eli all the way, I think he will beat Tony, like he stole something, take no prisoners!

Can we discuss how Jason Witten is completely insane for playing with a lacerated spleen? I'm all for being a tough guy... but a lacerated spleen??

I. am. PUMPED! But of course, in true form of every school my daughter's ever attended, they've scheduled their "back to school night" for tonight. I'm planning to make the shortest appearance possible. I'll be back as quickly as possible.

Oh...and GO GIANTS!
