NFL Sunday Live Fan Thread - September 16th
READ MORE:
NFL
I'm often asked how you can watch two straight days of football. I usually ask myself how I manage to get through the other five days. Sufficiently entertaining day of college football yesterday, today should prove to be an educational day of the NFL version.

We jump to so many conclusions after Week 1 without any consideration for the opponent. Right now the Lions are on the up and up, Patriots have won the Super Bowl, Roethlisberger is going to pass for 300 touchdowns and the Bears can't run the football. Let's put all these on hold for at least another hour. We should learn a lot today.

Quick thoughts on this afternoon's games:

49ers at Rams
Was it just the Cards or does SF have a top defense? The latter.

Bills at Steelers
Cutler passed over Buffalo, Big Ben will too
Packers at Giants
Gunslinger should have a field day, Giants still win
Falcons at Jaguars
Over/under on Joey Harrington pick 6's: 1.5 ... I'll take the over
Bengals at Browns
How is this still a touchdown spread? Vegas, you're on notice.
Texans at Panthers
Barometer for Houston against a real team. I'm buying.
Colts at Titans
VY did it last year, VY will do it this year.
Saints at Bucs
Ok, Take 2 Drew Brees. Resume regular schedule programming.
Cowboys at Dolphins
Experts like the Fish. Experts should pick up fishing.
Seahawks at Cardinals
Buzzsaw are going to take this, promise.
Vikings at Lions
Purple Jesus! All Day!
Raiders at Broncos
McCown or Culpepper, it won't matter.
Jets at Ravens
Kellen Clemens should be starting, and get the win.
Chiefs at Bears
If the spread was 24, I'd still take Chicago.

Feel free to cheer on your team, rip on the rest right here.

I can't believe the spread in Jets/Ravens is 11.5.  That's absurd!

A lot of odd spreads this week don't you think?

Bengals anyone from 7-9 points favorites.
Saints only 3.5
Bears only 12

I dunno.  I need some help after getting destroyed in spreads last week.

Hmm, Fox just showed the tape that the Patriots were cheating with.  It was showing the coaches, then the scoreboard for down, then to the coaches.

How'd they get that lol?

That was interesting. I'm sure the NFL gave out that small clip to fans understand what they were doing. I think it's important to share. Take note of that, baseball.

I only get one game early (stupid Lions) but at least I can watch the Colts whomp Tennessee.  Got KC/CHI and DET/MIN later.

The NFL has the oddest blackout rules. The Cardinals are at home this afternoon, which means I get no early game on Fox.

Too bad for them, I have SopCast, so I can watch the Giants/Packers game.

Carolina owning the Texans right now, my rank of them at 6th seems more justified by the minute.

Assuming of course you think the Texans are also a top team.

Don't know bout you guys but I love how Jeremy Shockey takes a cheap shot at AJ Hawk and hasn't done anything since... granted its only the 2nd quarter.

Bryant Gumbel applauds himself for using the word fortuitous. Doesn't even announcer use that term when a pass is deflected or football is fumbled into the right hands?

This is why the Gumbel's bother me.

Wow, maybe the Saints just suck.  Down 14-0 to the Bucs?  Wow, all of those people who have them in the Super Bowl have got to be a little worried.

Someone needs to tell Cincy that they're playing the Browns.  13-7?

He has to step up, they don't have a real proven runner like they used to.

Anthony Gonzalez' first NFL reception was one of the best catches I've seen so far this year. Brought the ball down in tight double coverage, and then picked up another big chunk of yards on the next play, with his 2nd catch.

No kidding.  Heckuva pass too.  Not sure what they were thinking there at the end hurring up on the last play...

Wow...the Saints are bad...that is all.

It was. I was surprised he hadn't caught a pass in the first game.

The Steelers backup jerseys are hideous.

Wow, another TD for the Browns.  The Bengals D continues to be awful.

Maybe we'll have a game like a few years back were they scored like 100 points combined.

I honestly think the Giants will be better off without Tiki... he became a locker room cancer.

Dan Dierdorf will bear Payton Mannings first born!

9/16/07

Dan Dierdorf is an idiot.  He was raving about the "Great coverage" by a Colt DB when the DB never looked for the ball and the pass just bounced off the receivers face.

The Saints are awful, that is all.  28-0 to Tampa?

There are really some poor color commentators in the NFL. Simms and Aikman are the only ones that know what they are doing.

Vinateri is having a rough day. One extra point blocked, and a 20 yard FG was just barely good after bouncing off the crossbar.

He hasn't been sacked all game, some credit definetly deserves to go to the OL.  Great game for Schaub though.

But as all TV networks would remind us, he's never missed at the RCA Dome lol.

51-38 Browns? WTF?

Thoughts on the early action.

Tampa 31 Saints 14.  Wow, just wow.  The Saints secondary is pathetic, they allowed 24 yards per completion...and Garcia only completed 10.  No sacks, Galloway owned.  Saints are in trouble.

Jags 13, Atlanta 7.    Zzzzzzzzz, wait huh?  Oh yeah, the Falcons kicker is bad.  0-2, good job Matt Prater.  He'll get cut...

Green Bay 35. Giants 13.  Packers D is for real.

Pittsburgh 26, Buffalo 3.  Another great performance against a mediocre team.  Still want to see the Steelers beat someone good.  Great game by Parker.

Colts 22, Titans 20.  Colts had some dumb clock management in the end, they could have easily lost that.  D was pretty good against the running backs.

49ers 17, Rams 16.  Called that upset.  Steven Jackson shut down again.  But 6 sacks by the 49ers D, the Rams are already missing Orlando Pace.

Texans 31, Carolina 21.  Talk about blowing a lead.  It looks like Kubiak has set that line straight, 0 sacks allowed.  If they can block that well each week, we'll see a lot of Andre Johnson from Schaub.

Arena Bowl.  Not over yet, but wow the Bengals defense is terrible.  Defense has 0 sacks for the Bengals, allowing 5 TD passes to the Browns is awful.  And Jamal Lewis with over 200 yards?  You know you D is awful when that happens.

9/16/07

Yeah, 2nd straight week the spread has killed me.  I'm considering next week picking the opposite of what I think will happen.

To be fair, FanIQ's majority picks also went 2-6 against the spread, so I wasn't the only one sucking this week. Did alright elsewhere.  5-3 straight up, 6-2 on the o/u.

It won them a game which they would have otherwise lost. It was the single most important decision in the game, and Shanahan and the Broncos played it perfectly. Or, you could even say they played it brilliantly.
