The Giants traded Jeremy Shockey to the Saints, thinking that Kevin Boss would be a viable replacement, after his solid performance last year in their Super Bowl run. While the Giants haven't lost a game yet, Boss has been largely a disappointment this year.If the Giants want to strengthen their depth and talent at TE while giving Eli Manning another receiving option, why not go for the greatest tight end of all time? Tony Gonzalez is rumored to be asking for a trade, and to the Giants no less.
Gonzalez already has 2 TD's this year for a team that has one of the worst offenses in football.
This deal makes a lot of sense for the Giants, if they can get Gonzalez for a reasonable price. They are the defending Super Bowl champs, and are looking good right now to make quite a run at a repeat. They don't have many weaknesses, but tight end is definitely one of them. Boss has only had 5 receptions this year, and hasn't shown the consistency that he showed last year. While Gonzalez is getting older(he's 32 years old), he's still one of the better receiving TE's in the game.
This trade might be the one that takes the Giants over the top. There's only one way to find out. Carl Peterson needs to pull the trigger on it.
What are your thoughts on this potential deal? Would it be worth a couple draft picks from the Giants, perhaps the ones they got in the Shockey deal? Should the Chiefs let go of their legend? Discuss.
