Another interesting slate of games in the books. Let's take a look:Titans Beat Bears 21-14: People said, "If you shut down the running game, you beat the Titans." Well, the Bears held them to a grand total of 20 rushing yards. But Kerry Collins was very good, throwing 30-41 for 289 yards and two touchdowns. Sexy Rexy wasn't awful, throwing one INT, but he only averaged 4.7 a pass. The Bears were only 3-14 on third downs. I still don't know how people aren't convinced of the Titans, but whatever. They are now 9-0, and the Bears are 5-4.
Ravens Smack Texans 41-13: This one was a 19-13 game after the third quarter. But then Houston fell apart. The Rosencopter threw four interceptions, two by Ray Lewis. Willis McGahee had a big day, getting 112 yards and 2 touchdowns. Flacco was solid, two TDs and 185 yards. Todd Heap had two TD catches, and even Troy Smith had a random TD pass. The Ravens are 6-3 atop the wild card standings, and the Texans are 3-6.
Jaguars Maul Lions 38-14: Not shocking at all, you can always rely on the Lions for a rebound. Maurice Jones-Drew had three touchdowns. The Jaguars also had seven sacks, not giving anything to the Lions. Daunte Culpepper's triumphant return was not so much, 5-10, 104 yards and an INT. Drew Stanton finally found the field, and was a solid 6-8 for 94 and a touchdown. Start THAT guy Lions! Jacksonville is now 4-5 and the Li
Patriots Defeat Bills 20-10: The Bills were 5-1 before playing divisional opponents. After three straight games against the division, they are 5-4. The Patriots controlled time of possession, and BenJarvis Green-Ellis had105 yards on the ground. Wes Welker also had 10 catches for over 100 yards. The Patriots defense was strong, getting two interceptions and holding Marshawn Lynch to 46 yards. The Patriots are now 6-3, and the Bills are 5-4.
Falcons Topple Saints 34-20: Ironic that the Saints, who everyone seemed to love out of that division, is the worst team. The Falcons didn't turn it over once, while Drew Brees had 3 interceptions on 58 passes. "Matty Ice" had a very good day, going 16-23 for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. Turnovers so often kill you, and today was no different. The Falcons are now a 6-3 (who'd have thunk it?) and the Saints are 4-5.
Jets Flatten Rams 47-3: Not often Brett Favre only throws 19 passes in a game. But when the other team has five turnovers, no reason not to run. Thomas Jones had 26 carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns, and they finished with over 200 rushing yards. No Ram could do anything offensively. Marc Bulger and Trent Green each struggled, and no one ran well either. The Jets are tied for the division lead at 6-3, and the Rams are 2-7.
Dolphins Hold on For 21-19 WIn over Seahawks: Pretty even game all around. The Dolphins took an 8 point lead late in the 4th, and a few minutes later Seattle matched. But the Dolphins stopped the two point conversion. Seattle did have another chance to get into field goal range, but couldn't complete a 4th down at midfield with 20 seconds left. The Pothead had 105 yards, while Ronnie Brown was held to 39. Miami is now 5-4, and Seattle is 2-7. Nice effort by the Seahawks, but their failure of a season continues.
Vikings Win Hectic 28-27 Game Over Packers: Two safeties, a punt return, and an interception for a touchdown. Not often each of those happens in a game. The Vikings essentially dominated this game, had double the yards and time of possession, but they tried to lose with three turnovers and poor playcalling. Those interceptions kept the Packers in the game, as they came from down 11 to take a 6 point lead with 6 minutes left.
But Adrian Peterson had a huge day, running for 192 yards, and a huge touchdown late in the 4th to give them a one point lead. The Packers still had a chance to win this, as they got Mason Crosby into range for a very long field goal. But he justed missed the 52 yarder to give the Vikings the game. Minnesota is now tied for the division lead at 5-4, while the Packers are 4-5.
Interesting slate early. Only one good game late. If you aren't watching Colts/Steelers, my deepest sympathy to you.
