Nine games early, some with playoff implications, and some without. Let's look:Falcons Beat Buccaneers 13-10 in OT: Low scoring defensive duel. Tampa had a chance to win late 4th on a blocked punt which put them inside the ten, but a sack and hold later, they had to kick a field goal. The Buccaneers won the toss, but punted, then the Falcons ran it 10 times on an 11 play drive to get Elam in range for the winning 34 yarder. Turner had 152 yards on 32 carries, and John Abraham had 3 sacks. Both teams are now 9-5, which probably locks the division up for the Panthers. With Washington failing, Tampa and Atlanta are currently tied for the wild card spots. If the Cowboys win, it's a 3 way tie.
Bills Fail Again Late, Lose 31-27 to Jets: The Bills had this game in their grasps, up 4 with the ball with 2 minutes left. But then Losman fumbled, and Shaun Ellis picked it up for what would be the game winning touchdown. Losman had 3 interceptions and 3 fumbles, yikes. Marshawn Lynch was a beast, and the Bills D was solid, getting two turnovers off of Favre. But they fell apart once again, falling to 6-8 after starting 4-0. The Jets remain tied for the division lead at 9-5.
Titans Stupidity Costs Them 13-12 Against Texans: Down one on a 4th down, the Titans had a 49 yard field goal set up for the automatic Rob Bironas to take the lead with under two minutes left. But in an act of utter stupidity, Jeff Fisher had them go for it on 4th and 3, which failed. The Titans had timeouts, but Steve Slaton was money running down the clock. Collins was 15-33, and Andre Johnson had 207 yards receiving. With that, Tennessee is 12-2, and could be in danger of losing the one seed if the Steelers win today and next week against the Titans. Houston is a quiet 7-7.
Redskins Playoff Dreams End With Loss to The Bengals: Wow, now that's just pathetic. Turnovers killed the Redskins, they had two, one by fullback Mike Sellers at the goal line. (Why aren't they giving it to Portis there?) Othe than the turnovers, it was a statistically even game, but the Bengals won 20-13. This kills the Redskins, they are 7-7, two games back on the closest wild card. Season = Over. Bengals are 2-11-1.
Colts Sneak Past Lions 31-21: The Colts had a few ugly turnovers by punt returner Keiwan Ratliff which kept the Lions in this one, as it was 21-21 in the 4th. The Lions offense moved the ball fairly well, but the Lions ultimately were the Lions. Dallas Clark had 12 catches for 142 yards for the Colts. Colts are 10-4, leading the wild card standings, and the Lions path to epic failure continues as they are 0-14.
Dolphins Hold On Over 49ers 14-9: The 49ers actually played a very good game. They controlled time of possession, and had more yards and first downs than the Dolphins. But the 49ers stalled every time in the red zone, and couldn't get more than field goals. They had a chance late, with about a minute left, but Joey Porter got a sack on 4th down to end it for the Dolphins. Dolphins go to 9-5 with the win, staying tied for the division lead and in the wild card hunt. The 49ers are 5-9.
Chiefs Fall Apart, Lose 22-21: This was a 21-3 Chiefs lead in the 4th. With 1:13, the Chargers scored a TD to make it 21-16, then the Chiefs fumbled the onside kick. The Chargers promptly went down and scored again, but the Chiefs had a chance. The game would've been over, but the Chargers in an act of stupidity wouldn't let the ref spot the ball, getting a delay of game. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, Connor Barth (Great last name) missed the 50 yarder. Yikes. Chargers are 6-8, Chiefs are 2-12
Jaguars Beat Packers 20-16: Packers D gave up another TD late to lose the game. Both teams are a very disappointing 5-9.
Seahawks Win 23-20 on field goal over Rams: If a game takes place, but no one watches it; did it really happen?
Playoff implications all over the place late Steelers/Ravens for the AFC North, the Vikings are currently stomping the Cardinals, Carolina and Denver are tied, and the Patriots are beating the Raiders. Enjoy!
