Assorted thoughts, comments and reactions from NFL Week 7...
Can we stop the Reggie Bush 'isn't tough' and 'overrated' talk. Sure it was the Falcons, but his touchdown and subsequent 2-point conversation showed both dimensions of why Bush is incredibly valuable.
I love the Eli Manning is much improved talk. It's true, but I think the New York Giants defense is the story and with a 5 straight wins it's making Eli look good. New York has an astounding 27 sacks thus far.
Ok, maybe, just maybe the Detroit Lions are good. Mike Martz showing he's still committed to running the football when necessary and using Calvin Johnson on an game-ending end-around was impressive.
You know who leads the NFL in rushing right? Adrian Peterson. So why then did he touch the ball just 13 times Sunday at Dallas? 5 of those came on the very first drive which resulted in a Peterson 20-yard touchdown run. Doesn't make any sense.
This Randy Moss 50-yard catch wasn't fair.
Whew. The Bears aren't good, but they still can be by the end of the season. It's just good to know that possibility is still alive after a 97-yard touchdown drive in the final minutes. It's also good to know that Ron Turner has zero input in the final drive ... all play calls were made by Brian Griese due to the radio communication coincidentally going out just before the Bears began from their own 3.
Most critical play of the game and you put the ball into the hands of a wide receiver? I know Anquan Boldin was once a QB, but you'd hardly know after his horrid pass to Larry Fitzgerald on a 2-point conversation attempt that would have tied the Cardinals and Redskins. That's a gimmicky coach trying to get too cute.
The only time 20-for-31, 272 yards, three TDs isn't impressive is when it's against the Bengals defense. If Eric Mangini doesn't at least give Kellen Clemens some snaps, their failed season is all on the coach, not Chad.
That's all for now. Looking forward to the Monday night game.
