Trying to figure out the NFL on a week to week basis is really a lost cause. I can't believe anyone would actually put money on games with the parity that exists. Anyhow, here are the early games.
Rams Destroy Cowboys 34-14: People forget that Jim Haslett wasn't that bad of a coach in New Orleans. And he has gotten the Rams to finally play football. The Cowboys need to be scared, not as much because of Romo being hurt, but because their defense is AWFUL. Steven Jackson ran wild, getting 160 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Rams didn't turn it over, while Dallas had 4, 3 interceptions thrown by Brad Johnson and one Marion Barber fumble. Wade Phillips should be really worried, because if this keeps up, he'll get the boot. The Rams move to 2-4, while Dallas is now 4-3.
Bears Beat Vikings In Arena Football 48-41 battle: I think most people would've been surprised if these two teams combined for 41 points. But that's how many the Vikings scored, and they LOST the game. The Bears special teams had two touchdowns, but neither was Hester related. One was off a muffed punt, the other a blocked punt. Gus Frerotte threw 4 interceptions, including one late in the game when they still had a small chance. The Bears move to 4-3 and lead the division (could be tied if Packers win) while the Vikings are now 3-4.
Buffalo Rebounds With Win Over San Diego 23-14: Power outages in Orchard Park left that game off TV for a while and left the Stadium without power. Many thought the Bills had been exposed two weeks ago after a pounding by the Cardinals, but that was not the case. LaDainian Tomlinson was shut down, only able to get 41 yards in the game. Phillip Rivers had a big INT in the endzone late and two lost fumbles which contributed to their demise. Trent Edwards was a solid 25-30, 261 yards, and a TD. Buffalo is now 5-1, and the Chargers are 3-4.
Titans Stomp Chiefs 34-10: Surprise! By which I mean not at all surprising. Chris Johnson had 168 yards rushing, and LenDale White had 149 yards. Each had runs of over 65 yards. Brodie Croyle was injured by the Headstomper, and both Huard and Thigpen both came in and struggled. Sadly, Thigpen had 21 yards rushing, and was the leading runner for the Chiefs. Titans remain the only unbeaten at 6-0, while the Chiefs are 1-5.
Ravens Take Frustrations Out On Dolphins 27-13: The Ravens certainly were not happy about losing last week big to the Colts, and they took it out on the Dolphins. The Dolphins great run game was stopped, as Ronnie Brown could only get 27 yards on 13 tries. Willis McGahee ran for 100+, and Flacco was efficient, not turning the ball over. Pennington only threw one INT, but it was taken to the house by Terrell Suggs. Baltimore is 3-3, the Dolphins are 2-4.
Panthers Flatten Saints 30-7: Yardage wise, the game was pretty even. But the game was far from it. Brees was only 21-39, and an interception and a Shockey fumble both hurt the Saints. The Panthers ran for 143 yards, while Steve Smith had 122 yards receiving. Panthers are now 5-2, while the Saints fall to 3-4.
Steelers Take Out Bengals 38-10: Another game with a not-so-shocking outcome. Mewelde Moore was no issue at all at RB, running for 120 yards with 3 total touchdowns. The Steelers D had 7 sacks, and 3 different guys with two sacks. We did get to see a QB named Palmer throw a few passes, but it was Carson's younger brother Jordan who threw 4 balls. Steelers are now 5-1, while the Bengals continue to have the NFL's worst record at 0-7.
Giants Defeat 49ers 29-17: The 49ers for the second straight week blocked a field goal for a TD, which I imagine is a first. Their D wasn't bad either, as Eli Manning was only 16-31, and Brandon Jacobs only had 69 yards. (But still two TDs) However, the Giants D was lethal. They held Frank Gore to 11 yards rushing, and had 6 sacks. J.T. O'Sullivan remained awful, fumbling the ball 4 times and throwing two interceptions. Giants are now 5-1, and the 49ers are 2-5.
Another strange group of games. Enjoy the late ones.
