Let's look at the four late games:Steelers/Giants: Very tricky and back and forth game. The Steelers shut down the Giants running game, but 4 interceptions by Roethlisberger really hurt. In the 4th quarter with the Giants down 14-12 in the middle of the 4th, an injury to the regular long snapper caused LB James Harrison to come in his place. But the snap flew over the punters' head, leading to a safety to tie it at 14. The Giants then took the lead on a TD pass to Kevin Boss. The Steelers failed on the next drive, but would get it back with 1:48 after making a stop. It wouldn't matter, that drive would end in an interception. The Giants are now 6-1, and the Steelers are 5-2.
Browns Upset Jaguars 23-17: Statistically, the Jaguars were better in almost every way. But in the back in forth game, the one turnover proved huge. Down 3 in the 4th, KR Brian Witherspoon fumbled, which led to time off the clock and another field goal. The Jaguars had a drive late, but an unsportsmanlike penalty by Tony Pashos sent them even farther back, and ultimately they ran out of time. (Although Matt Jones ALMOST had the game winning TD) Both teams are now 3-4.
Seahawks Flatten 49ers 34-13: Turnovers early killed the 49ers. A fumble lost by O'Sullivan and a bad interception both led to Seattle touchdowns. O'Sullivan was eventually benched for Shaun Hill, who came in and while not great, was better than O'Sullivan. The 49er D stopped the run, but allowed two very long passing plays from Seneca Wallace to fullback Leonard Weaver. Both teams are a lackluster 2-6.
Texans Spank Bengals 35-6: This really shouldn't come as a shock to most, since the Bengals are so pathetic. Schaub passed effortlessly on them, 24-28 for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Bengals turned it over 3 times, and just couldn't get anything going. Andre Johnson had 143 yards and Kevin Walter had two TD's. Houston is 3-4 (Amazing what not going on the road every game can do) and the Bengals are a league worst 0-8.
There you have, 8 weeks of Sunday football in the books. Four teams have 6 wins, Tennessee, the Giants, the Redskins, and...the Panthers??? Wow. More analysis on the standings come tomorrow.
