Blog Photo - NFL and referees are close to an agreementAccording to Chris Mortensen, the NFL is close to an agreement that could bring back the "real" referees as soon as this weekend.

Many people assumed this would happen soon, largely due to the outrage after the ending of this week's Monday Night Football game in which many people believe the Packers were robbed of a victory.

Both sides have compromised a bit, and we might finally get what we've all been asking for all year.

A few of the sticking points included a group of 21 extra officials, ready to replace the "starters" if they do a poor job, as well as money, obviously.

There's no official word on the exact terms of the agreement, and Players' Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith says that we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves yet.

If the regular refs are indeed coming back, it's a great day for football. If not... well... I don't know what to tell you, but it'll continue to be ugly.

After that horrible call Monday night, I too figured that would get things moving faster. It's been a pitifully reffered the first 3 weeks and preseason. Definitely ready for some REAL football!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Given the fact that this all went down on the NFL's staple program with one of the NFL's most popular franchises being jobbed, it doesn't surprise me one bit that this is close to being resolved.

With the debacle on Monday night football it's quite obvious the gap between the replacement officials and the REAL officials is huge. Here's to hoping that this gets resolved more sooner that later.. here here...!
