"The San Francisco 49ers learned that there was a fatal accident outside of Candlestick Park prior to today’s game,” the 49ers said in the release. “We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time."

The fan’s identity is being kept under wraps until the medical examiner notifies his family. The looked to be in his 30’s, witnesses also claimed.

This is the third serious incident to occur at an NFL stadium in less than two weeks.

A fan at the Denver Broncos’ preseason game on Aug. 30 was seriously injured when he fell off an escalator.

Earlier on Sunday, two fans were injured at Lucas Oil Stadium when a rail collapsed after the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Oakland Raiders. Witnesses said the ans were leaning against a railing above the tunnel used by the Raiders when it collapsed and they fell onto the walkway that led to the team's locker rooms.

Colts spokesman Avis Roper update had no information on how severely the fans were injured. But according to unofficial reports, one fan carried off on a stretcher while another left in a wheelchair.
