The Lockout is back! Now NFL referees are locked out
The NFL has decided they're going with scabs. The league will begin training replacement referees later this month, so that no actual NFL games will be missed.
Oh, would Boston Celtics fans love it if this were suddenly the case in the NBA Playoffs.
"The NFL is not saying that this is a lockout, but essentially, this is another lockout" reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. The NFL claims they've offered referees more money in their latest deal, yet also claim that the referees have adopted a list on unfair demands. The league did not note what these allegedly unfair demands really are.
"The NFL has begun the process of looking for replacement officials," Schefter said. "They will look everywhere. They will look at smaller college conferences, they will look at retired elite college officials, they will look to the arena league."
Hey, I bet Terrell Owens might be interested!
The NFL Players Union appears to be siding with the refs."The NFL Players Association is concerned about the NFL's decision to lock out professional referees and recruit scabs to serve as referees in NFL games for the 2012 season," the NFLPA said in a statement. "In 2011, the NFL tasked officials with increased responsibilities in protecting player health and safety, and its search for scabs undermines that important function."
The NFL has released their own statement saying that "regional training sessions for replacement officials will begin later this month." They did not indicate how jokers like you and me could try applying for one of these jobs.
